Ok, so I'm watching a couple videos on YT last night. A couple of them report on oh there is a 'glut' of ammo, prices are down and Mfgs. are overstocked with ammo collecting dust.

1. They cite a number of reasons for this such as the economy, the frenzy and panic buying of a couple years ago is over, a lot of people are stocked up with more than they will ever use. It was also mentioned perceptions and attitudes are changing and people are less 'panicky' and more practical and pragmatic with their ammo buying and not shooting near as mch.

2. OK - then I see a couple vids that say prices are UP over the last few months and while availability IS good right now it's probably not going to last because of an upcoming shortage of raw materials caused by 'tariffs' and other issues, the possibility of a couple ammo Mfgs. closing down and more production and emphasis going toward the Gov and the Military so BUY IT UP NOW WHILE YOU CAN!!!

So are videos #1 correct, and #2s made to try to influence panic buying again?

I personally have not seen any real change of late. Since last great panic ended seems like price has gone back to what will be normal for now. There is a HUGE glut of YT video's that are click bait. If anyone see's some video I would look for other places to see if what they are saying is just click hype or real. If this is really happening there will be plenty of places to read about it without clicking on some video.

Prices have stabilized and in some cases (primers) are coming down a bit. I really haven't seen much in the way of lower prices at my LGS but the shelves are better stocked now. Online I see some drop in prices and if stock continues to meet or exceed demand it might trickle down to my LGS. That is until the next wave of panic inducing shenanigans occur. I buy when deal is good to reasonable depending on my needs. The only thing I really have paid a premium on in the last few years is some primers and a bit of powder.

I pay little to no attention to the Youtube prognosticators! You live through enough of these events you learn to stock up to ride through the lean availability and high prices.

Buy enough when the price is low and don't ask questions. Price, availability, access and all will change at some point. Why wait?

Oh I realize this! The only reason it slightly interested me is I am in Bi Mart probably 3 times a week, and I HAD noticed ammo shelves full and not many people buying ammo. I also am In Sportsman's about once a month and see similar.

Being a reloader I was only affected by component shortages once and that was due to MY fault of getting caught 'behind the lines' once after Sandy Hook.

All Pundits are wrong. That's how you can tell there "experts". :s0114:

Today I'm able to find what I like on line at decent prices. So I'm buying it.
Sure things could get cheeper. But remember " Perfect is the enemy of good enough".

I avoid buying at panic prices. And I can honestly say I've never regretted an ammo purchase.

I have during a panic. Grabbed the last box of .357 mag of the shelf. Walked out the store and noticed it was .357 Sig.

But I'd say, 'expect the worse and hope for the best'.

I love Bimart. Best place to shop for ammo and guns. Sometimes they have amazing prices.

I like many here have lived through panic shortages since before there was the net. The net made them last far longer and much worse but one thing remains the same. Shelves fill, price leads to sales, people ignore the stuff. Until the next panic hits and then here come the hordes to the net to scream its all a giant rip off :s0092:
There is no reaching most of these people with facts about how manufacturing works. VERY few ever seem to learn. Something will sure as hell set off another panic and the same people will again be angry as they ignored the stuff on sale. :s0092:

It pays to be preparanoid. ;)
When it comes to loading stuff I learned LONG before the net came along. First time something caused a panic and stuff was gone I learned. When it came back I would buy some each time I was at the store. Price never really goes down other than sales. Stuff stored well will outlive the loader. When they started letting us order ammo I did the same. When cheap somewhere buy plenty. At each panic shortage we still go shooting all we want. I told the kids who don't shoot that when we shuffle off? Wait till next panic and sell the stuff.

Heck, I am 'aging' myself but I remember a 'minor' panic when Carter was prez... maybe it was the 'beginning' of all to come...
I started rolling my own in the late 70's. Soon after there was a primer shortage. Can't remember if I read anywhere what set it off. It was enough for me to learn though. Back then it was run around in the car from store to store looking for the damn things. So as soon as they came back I started buying a brick every time I set foot in the place. The shortages came and went over the years and I never cared. After most got on the net the next good one REALLY took off. Since daily people would jump online to tell all the sky was falling and stuff would never be seen again. Shelves were wiped out. This time it took longer to catch back up since daily people would tell everyone to panic. Sandyhook was a REAL good one. Again daily people telling everyone to panic so as fast as stuff would roll in people would buy it all. The great TP panic showed everyone how this works.

Kinda depends on what you're looking for.

I roll my own and still see things like H4895, IMR4895, IMR4064 a bit rare to find. Fed GM210M Primers as well.
