Last Friday, I wrote a long series of posts about the Finicum video and related events. It's on page 98 of the big thread:
<broken link removed>

I wrote it because I was laid up with a lame knee, reading online, and I couldn't believe how many people were jumping on the anti-cop conspiracy bandwagon, looking for any means imaginable to call this a bad shoot.

That thread is up to 111 pages now. Holy cow! There is no logical discourse, only emotional response, uninformed opinion, and fallacy. Ad hominem attack and head-in-the-sand are the apparent favorites.

The good news is that NWFA is not the only prominent gun board plagued by this problem.

The bad news is that this kind of thing makes gun forums, gun communities, and gun-owners in general look like a bunch of crazy people, because the press and the non-gun-owning public cannot distinguish between "normal people" NWFA members & "other" NWFA members. Even worse, they don't care to try. It is much better for the MSM anti-gun mission if they are able to portray all NWFA members as crazy people based on the never-ending spew of a vocal minority of members.

I got a PM from a long-time member here who warned me that "NWFA" isn't what it used to be, and that my posts would not be well received. This wasn't anyone I knew, just some random guy.

I have a theory: The members of this board are a silent majority of real people plus a very vocal minority of "other" people. Real people don't have the time or inclination to argue with "other" people online, but they might vote in a poll if one was available. So here you go!

Why should you vote? Because the "other" people don't know that they are a minority. They post non-stop and no one ever says anything different, so they just keep going. If this poll comes out 80-20 in favor of "good shoot", several good things will happen. The "other" people will go silent, which will be good for your image and reputation here. Members will have their faith in humanity restored by the realization that not everyone here is an anti-cop conspiracy nut. All of this can be accomplished by simple participation in a poll, and it may help shore up the reputation of gun-owners in general.

Of course, the other possibility is that NWFA members will swing 80-20 in favor of bad shoot, in which case either the OSP and the FBI admitted that they murdered Finicum on purpose and presented new evidence to support their new claim, or NWFA members are all crazy, or I am an inbred goat.

No harm in finding out!

A recent thread suggests that Joe is surprised that his board is up to 36,000 members. I wonder how many are active? I wonder how many have gone silent over the years because of that "NWFA is not what it used to be" perspective? I wonder how to invite some back to vote in this poll? If you know someone who went silent, maybe send them a link to this poll. Get them to vote. Take your board back.

LE shot a man that did not have a weapon in his hand and could arrested him at other times, but that would have been in public. jmho

My friend typed "inbred goats" in several places and submitted this thread while I was in the pisser. So I had to go back and fix the title and content so it wouldn't be inflammatory. Not funny.

Well - it was pretty funny.

Anyway, I'm very interested in the poll because I think it is a reflection of an obvious divide that exists between different groups of gun owners, and i will sleep better if i learn from the poll that most gun owners still fit my personal definition of "fairly normal".

I hope the poll runs for months.

You need to know what other people think,so you can sleep better?

How about form your own opinion, and forget what everyone else thinks?

Your almost incoherent blithering makes YOU sound like a "crazy people".

That is the opinion I have formed.

Your poll is missing at least one option; "Not enough info to form a valid opinion." Neither of the two choices allows for someone to acknowledge they may not know what happened.

Long time member though rare poster. I've bought and sold a few guns on here over the years. Guess I'm part of the silent lurker group.

Your posts on the other thread were the clearest analysis I've seen. I'd hoped I could find it somewhere other than NWFA to share. It is a nice juxtapose with the rest of the thread.

We can argue about where the line is that the police should take a life or risk their own. The status quo for the last 5+ years is that they err on taking a life and by that standard this was a much more justified shoot than any of the others that have made headlines recently.

If the conspiracy theorist in the other thread are representative of the broader membership then that is concerning.

I am terribly conflicted on this. To me it was an ambush and poorly executed. I blame Ron Wyden, Jeff Merkley and Gov. Kate Brown for pushing it to this end. I don't think anyone needed to die.

I miss talking about firearms well I miss talking about firearms that aren't black. As to the shoot well if I get called to a jury and I see all the evidence presented by both sides of the argument I'll form an opinion and give it when asked,

Until then you can only beat a dead horse for so long and then it just starts to stink.

This subject is way past that point.

I'm not required to have to like your opinion, your not required to like mine, if I read a few of your opinions and disagree and form a opinion that I don't want to deal with you anymore, it's very simple, I hit the button, takes a lot to get me there, only done it a couple times, but I can and I will as it is my right. JMHO

So I voted he brought this on himself for one reason.
He ran.
If he wouldn't have made the decision to commit a crime by running from a traffic stop regardless of the circumstances he would be alive today and could continue the fight in court.

I do, However, believe the political heads in the state forced the FBI to end this quickly because they were making their liberal socialist friends all look bad.
I do place blame on the Gov. And the Feds for forcing a confrontation.

I believe in what they were doing and the fight they presented, but they over stayed their welcome and they lost (or never had) mass public support. And forget media support.

And as usual too many backwoods anti govt idaho boys came in to join the fight.

It was not a traffic stop. It was a planned arrest stop. What was he supposed to do when the cops started shooting at the first stop without provocation? He did what anyone would do, he ran, and they continued shooting at him while he fled toward the roadblock ambush.
