I was inspired by all the Dry January folks to ditch Restaurants in February. We went to breakfast at Boston's on Saturday (wife was buying) and my meal cost $17 (only drank water). My wife's meal was slightly less but she ordered a cup of coffee and it was $3.50. Keep in mind Boston's is a hole in the wall pub/grill type place in a strip mall. $3.50 for coffee is insane!

Anyways I am making one exception and that is Papa Murphy's for family celebrations. Mom's birthday and Valentine's Day unless the wife wants flowers instead.

Call it a boycott, challenge, commitment, or just being cheap, but prepared food restaurants aren't going to get a dime out of my wallet in February. Hope this changes my life and turns out to be the best decision I ever made :)

Seems like a solid plan. Kinda gettin' to be past ridiculous and well into ludicrous pricing.

Every rule needs an exception.

I've been packing on the pounds again. Weightlifting has not helped with my energy expenditure (not enough anyways). I am not blaming restaurant food for the weight gain but I'm sure it hasn't helped. Now if I could swear off the Franza bakery outlet store, that might have an impact. :)

Edit: Because of AR10 barrel purchases, I have about $35 in my account to get me through to the 31st. I am guessing I won't be tempted to eat out the rest of this month either. The barrels are worth it though.

Edit to add: The Extended Butt-stock thread came in as a top result for awhile... not sure if it has maintained a dominant position. But this one is Number Two...

Ok, here's my "substantive" contribution to this thread.

Prior to the pandemic - around the time I retired in 2015 - it seemed like every other time any of my family went to a restaurant, they got sick. Way more than I've ever experienced prior to that time period. So, my wife and I quit eating out, other than to attend an event for a family member or friend, like a celebration.

So, no restaurant February is like every other "no restaurant" month for us.

But, least we forget, there is a cautionary tale in the meme below.

Cheers.

I expect this no restaurant thing will gain more traction, since people love to whine about food prices these days. But the buttstock thread will remain the more entertaining one.

My wife eats out almost everyday, sometimes twice a day. It's a miracle she doesn't get sick more often.

We used to go out pretty much once a week before the scamdemic. Got so used to not going out, even when they opened up, we went out ONCE. Total B.S. to have to wear a mask, unless you at the table. If you want to use the can, gotta mask up! No way Jose! We go out now every other week, or less, but only to one place. I have zero desire to try new places. We know the servers, like the dive bar atmosphere, and the food is tolerable. It's pretty much a C-note for the night between us. Sometimes less if Wifey or I hit something on the poker machines. Only other thing we get out is McD's every other week. Less than $7.00. Two Mcdoubles, and split a med/lar fry. Usually with an energy drink.

Never got sick though?

What's a restaurant?
In the past 5 years I have been in "restaurants" maybe 5 times, if that. The last was a little taco hole in the wall in Newberg - Taco Bell is better than that, but I wanted to try it and I was already parked - should have gone across the street to TB.

Mostly I like Pho, so a few times I have picked up some to go.

We (me & my kids) used to go to restaurants for Thanksgiving & XMas & sometimes B-Days, but now we order take out and eat at home.

For me, as my budget has gotten tighter, I have become more sensitive to pricing. When I see gun stuff prices falling and menu prices rising, it's becomes a no brainer as to where my money should go.

I love restaurant food, I hate the prices.

I agree with this. Since awhile now, I am pretty turned off by eating out in general. Between the ridiculous cost of a meal, (at most places.. and i do understand that cost and wages have all gone up) the service, (or lack there of) and the expected tip, rather than based on performance.. I'm happier eating at home! The view at home is better anyway..

Dry January, does that apply to the purchase or consumption of Alcohol.

I'm "dry" most of the year but I've bought alot of alcohol...
I think it's "keep your powder dry" reference to buy more ammo. Then again, it could be something asinine like "no-nut November". Are you a "no-nutter" @arakboss?
