They also make a standard shell holder plate. It has a allen screw as a keeper for the shell holder.I was actually about ready to machine an adapter to take standard shell holders when I stumbled on that idea!
Kinda seemed to defeat one of the major principals of the design though..
I just take the rub plate off with the plates and then flip it on to cover the springs when removing installing. Only time they go flying is when im removing or installing. I usually just put my finger over them when flipping the jaws and never have a problem.
But like you pointed out. Theres usually a almost perfect harmonious solution to any problem life has to offer. (except for socio economic apparently)
