New fisherman south of salem

Hows it going guys, I decided to pick up on fishing this summer while I'm out of school. Ive done some research and am wondering if I can get some advice before making my purchases. I'm interested in fishing for salmon and trout, and from my research it seems I will need different rods for both. Father in law has a 17' that ill be using to fish at Detroit, a d ill also be doing river fishing. Any local shops to check out as well? Thanks for your time in advance.
