I don't know, but in the early 1800's tons of metal cartridges were seeing their first real use, started as rim fire and pin fire and even for some, one had to ad their own cap. after paper and foil cartridges the next generation were copper case, many good guns being developed didn't fair so good because the copper head would come off during extraction disabling the gun. Most worked fine when using the brass case. Nonetheless, about that time, and before the brass became ubiquitous Some, including Remington tried adding double extractors to make the copper case shell extract more reliably. Likely about 1860 for Remington??!another question. Does anyone know what year they started putting double extractors on the Remington rolling blocks??
