My hunting partner had the same thing happen with a monster black bear @ 75 yards two years ago. Loudest firing pin drop without a bang I've ever heard.

a buddy of mine had that happen last weekend with a new Christiansen arms custom 300 win and Nosler trophy grade 180 grn Accu bond ammo. it did go bang the next time and he got the buck.
