This Spring Break , I am reading Audubon Writings and Drawings.
This is an excellent edition of John James Audubon's works from The Library of America.

In this book are :
Mississippi River Journal ( 1820 ) ...Complete
Excerpts from his :
1826 Journal...
Ornithological Biography
( Both writings and paintings )
Missouri River Journals ( 1843 ) ...Complete
Letters and Other Writings.

I am in his Mississippi River Journal , which has this odd and creepy entry
( Looking for a man who jumped overboard the flatboat and made it to shore )

Sunday 19th November 1820
"...found 2 dead Men Shot through the head Could not burrie them their Stench was too Great"...

Seems like scary things found in the woods , ain't a new thing.... :D
Anyway...the book is a good read , murder notwithstanding.

Sounds like a good read.
My college had a bunch of Audubon specimens and such. The professor took great glee in telling wet ears that Audubon shot all critters stuffed or otherwise rendered in his works. Lol
One thing of sad note is that history is being rewritten as the Audubon Society here is now called the Bird Alliance of Oregon because of some perceived bad he had done.

Judging a person from the past or a past event , by today's so called standards...is wrong.

Too funny about the Professor...and yeah...Audubon shot a lot....as in he shot a lot of every damn thing that crawled , walked or flew... :D
