Okay, here is the poor man's method to get a scope level. Get a deck of playing cards. Stack the cards between the scope base and the bottom of the scope turret. The turret is usually flat on the bottom. When the scope is snug with a number of the playing cards slowly tighten the rings, and gently remove the cards as you tighten the rings. Now you should have a level scope and on straight with the action. Works all the time for me. Scope mounting does not have to be expensive or a headache. The playing cards act as a shim to get a level platform.
