At the OAC show yesterday I came across an unusual early Mossberg scope. It's marked No. M4 on the scope, and 4 Power, and the mounts are something I've never seen on any old Mossberg scopes. They are marked "Mossberg No.7" on each mount. The mounts have twin wires that keep the crosshairs aligned, and also allow the scope to slide in the mounts under recoil. Pretty unique setup for the time period. I found a listing in Strobel's Old Scope book stating this was called the "No7M4" indicating it's an M4 scope in the No. 7 mounts. His book lists production as 1938-1965. I collect old target scopes, but have never seen one like this before. Great condition, with clear optics and fine crosshairs. Tough to pass up at $60!
