Cash register, ATM, and some goods in a convenience store aren't worth me going to jail and facing a long costly trial. Pepper spray might be fun, but you had better know what the ventilation is going to blow back into your own face.

If you're outnumbered, or for that matter, in a fair fight, you probably chose poorly. Never aggravate a situation you know you can't win. Sometimes it's best to let the idiots do idiot things, and just walk away.
At what point do we consider the destruction of livelihood a threat to well being? I get what you are saying with regards to current social and legal precedent, but we must also remember that if you do not have the right to defend something you do not actually own that thing. This extends to stuff as much as it applies to our own lives. Sure, the complete loss of livelihood might not be life ending, but it can certainly be hugely and negatively life altering. When do we as a society agree that that too is something worth defending?

I certainly think that livelihood is worth defending, and vigorously so. It seems a significant, if quiet, portion of society thinks the same. The only question is getting the courts to agree. That is a more difficult task, but I think that doing so would benefit our society a great deal.

Not disagreeing but a couple related thoughts fwiw. As a customer or employee yes. If it was the business owner they might think differently.

Re pepper spray, would work for an individual or maybe two, but not a mob probably. Stream type is not going to blow back in your face unless you are wrestling on the ground maybe. When I was attacked the pom pepper spray incapacitated him immediately and I got no blow back, never even smelled it, even on my fingers. Cloud type though yes for sure there could be blowback which is why I don't use those. Costs $12 so could practice in backyard with it for those that never seem to believe this no blowback fact for stream type pepper spray.

The mere presence of a truck gun, for example a small handy .308 or 5.56/300 BlK etc., might make the mob go away and solve the problem with no shots fired. Gotta be prepared to use it though if needed, not saying just a bluff only. For example confronting them with a command presence and a rifle/truck gun from a position of cover. Doesn't mean you have to shoot but you have control of the situation (as much as possible) and if they don't respond to your commands you can take further action (whatever that action is appropriate for you in that situation). Again owner vs employee probably different as perception of risk/reward may be different.
Glad to hear you were able to successfully handle the attack. I've never been sprayed or tasered but I've been told by several people that they would rather redo the taser before the pepper spray. They've also said it's better to have someone else in the class be the volunteer!

Both POM and Sabre come in gel and stream. I carry the gel. The Sabre practice spray is only about $10. You can download their face target and use the practice canister to get a feel for the type of activator, flip up or flip to the side, and also practice where to spray. Like any tool, you should practice and be familiar before using it.

This RTK understood the assignment…..😉

Reports show 52 people died during the riots. I didn't see a breakdown from what areas, since it was widespread. I was from LA, but was at Lackland AFB in Tx, when it happened. I was in the Air National Guard out of Ontario, Ca and some members were activated to help. That's roughly 50 miles from LA proper.

Ironically, there was a short lived gang truce in LA after the riots, that was real. But, I also think the gangs really started to spread to out laying areas after that.

Korea town was off the radar for years, then emerged somewhat more bustling and modern. LA, like a lot of places, still self segregate, regardless of who their actual neighbors are. Unlike the Bay area, in my opinion. I mention that to say, I don't think the riots would have kicked off in the Bay, under the same circumstances.

If I was on the jury? They would get hung jury at best. Sadly of course if an employee there does drop any of them? The DA will go after them with everything and lock them up. Only choice is business there just give up. When enough do something will change but, sadly it seems to have to get FAR worse first.
As long as it doesn't affect the "Ruling Class" nothing will ever happen.
