I post this with a deep 'exhalation' but I am beginning to consider moving out of Central Oregon.

I have been thinking about this for the last year or so and I am 'weighing' the pros and cons of it and it is beginning to seem like a more 'prudent' decision.

Weather is a BIG part of this and I am researching areas of Oregon with 'milder' weather yet still close to National Forest areas and at this point I am considering Southwest Oregon areas and am taking time to research areas from Grants Pass North to Canyonville as a possibility.

This is a very serious consideration and is occupying my thoughts very heavily....

I'll tell ya, I love Oregon. Lived here my whole life. But if the political spectrum here doesn't change then we're outta here in a couple of years, too. I'm a bit done with the rain here in the valley, but I don't mind cold too much (nor does the wife). Northern Idaho is what we're looking at.

I've lived in both. Between the two, there is zero question, I'd be on the eastern side, even with the colder winters.

Southern Oregon is a toilet. The natural beauty is amazing, but the demographics is something out of zombie movie. No thanks and we have plans underway to relocate to the southwest (Arizona) soon; this present septic tank being one the big reasons we're leaving the 🦫 state and not looking back. (There are other reasons we're bailing, of course, not the least of which the political lunacy.)

Anyway, I don't want to poo-poo, but rather raise some genuine concern. Best of wishes with your research.

Truck on out of here then!
'Trucking on out of here' isn't an easy consideration....

While I am certainly NOT a fan of the politics or what OR has become they are not major considerations at my 'juncture' in life or leaving the state only because of political 'ideology'.

I have some family 'concerns', a LOT of friends and a 'familiarity' with OR from living here a long time I dont really want to leave.

Heck, just leaving Central OR would be MAJOR change and I have looked at Oakridge as a possibility to remain somewhat 'close' to Central Oregon.

I totally get that. I'm a native and I have some pretty deep roots in this state even though my parents came out from Illinois in 1970. It would be hard to leave. I had considered leaving my current location and relocating back into the mountains where I was born but I've made a life here, I know people and my grandkids are here so I'll likely not leave. I'd like to see eastern Oregon get a divorce from Portland (sorry western Oregon conservatives) so I could have my freedom back and stay in my native habitat. I don't think that's going to happen though.
