I just had a conversation with my neighbor about M16's when he was stationed in the Mekong Delta.
The order of the day was to go out on patrol with their M16's chamber empty until they made contact.
That didn't go very well with the troops and certainly wasn't obeyed in his platoon.

I'm familiar with the maintenance comic/pamphlet. It was a few years after I DEROSed! Never saw one while I was serving. Always get a kick out of it!
