Went to the store today and there was a small table outside the door with two people there (I'll refer to as idiot 1 and idiot 2) that appeared to be doing a petition for something.
Idiot 1: Can I talk to you a minute?
Me: Sure.
Idiot 1: Do you hunt?
Me: Yes.
Idiot 1: Have you ever shot a bear?
Me: I hope to this year.
Idiot 1: Did you know they're logging the trees in the forest?
Me: Yes, then they replant with new trees.
Idiot 2: The logging is destroying the habitat for the wildlife.
Me: And the trees they plant creates new habitat.
Idiot 2: The logging also destroys the streams and waterways.
Me: They are required by law to stay a certaint way away from the waterways to protect them from the logging.
Idiot 2: But......
Me: I'm done, goodbye.

Maybe dog use is trying to get on the ballot and they're just bringing up logging for extra appeal?
Maybe @Tlock might know..

As opposed to leaving them unmanaged and leaving all the dead fall as fuel so we lose even more?

We in Washington used to pay for much our school system with timber profits, now unmanaged we just let them burn with all "the animals" in it...brilliant.

Can we use the homeless as firewood?
I'm no fan of scumbags but not everyone that's homeless is a drug addict or pos. Lots of folks lost their homes during the 2008 banking scheme n' didn't have a relative to live with. Most are just a paycheck away from hard times and homelessness. You have to factor in how pretty much all landlords and apartment owners these days favor illegals and their kids when there's a problem... and there's always a problem living in apartments. From letting their kids climb on your car to vandalism (scratching vehicles with sticks) and letting their kids jump around at all hours above you. Some folks just get so fed up they wake up one day and say F it. F paying bills, F my boss, and F putting up with so much bs every day at home when they get off working 8 hours at a dead end job with subhuman coworkers that hate white men. That's life living in a big city like Portland.

*And if you think some of these people won't set you up to get fired... well, just hope it doesn't happen to you. Because it happens.

Sorry man.

My whole life on the coast has soured me on the unhoused. I've probably been close to the life a time or 2 myself.

OK, 2-5% possibly aren't addicts.

Ive always been curious what percentage of the homeless population genuinely fell on hard times not by their own undoing?

Temporary displacement at best. Reprod growth in the coast range is typically loaded with wildlife.

Never been homeless...but damn near with 2008 and its financial woes.

Housing market fell flat...
Wife is a structural engineer ...with no one buying homes , construction went to way side for a number of years....
Little to no construction...meant little to no need of a structural engineer.
While I was working...at a retail job...the income that brought in , was little and to next to nothing.

Soooo....
I took a lot of extra hours , when I could get 'em....took side jobs....and sold a lot of my guns to make house payments and to put food on the table.
Times were tight , we buckled down ...and we got lucky.

Way better off now with me working as a Dean of Students...and the housing market / new construction being done.
Still suffering the effects of those lean years however.
Andy
