"Oh, this could never happen to me!" ...the most dangerous words in firearm ownership!

A good reminder for us all to be stead fast with our firearm safety!

Firearm malfunction....

Take a moment...think it though ...be mindful of where your muzzle is pointing at...and keep your finger off the trigger.
Not everything needs to be done at competition speed or with a combat readiness mindset.

I'm paranoid about an unloaded firearm on the bed where I then have to walk around the bed and be flagged by an unloaded or even disassembled firearm...

Always have to point it in a safe direction as I move around...

While I do feel bad for the guy all I can think is here is someone who should not have had a gun. He had to be looking down the damn bore while working the action. Thankfully he only shot himself.

Really terrible but its a reminder to be smart, knowledgeable of firearms and how they work, and to follow the necessary precautions to avoid this kind of thing.

Shoot smart... as an adverb, not a noun... I thought I was supposed to look in the barrel while clearing a firearm. This should be in the Darwin awards thread.

I'm curious exactly what gun was involved. I've seen 2 close calls with people mortaring short barreled ARs trying to clear jams.

star telegram must be down, it's not loading for me. sounds like an awful breaking of rules 1 through 3 took place. #4 being know whats behind the target... Tragic nonetheless

I had a patient die that way, sort of. She was drunk and playing with a 22 caliber handgun, and looked down the barrel and accidentally shot herself in the eye. She actually died when they procured her organs for donation.

There but for the grace of God go I. That's why I don't even touch my guns after drinking.
