Got a fly pole for Christmas. Been out 2 times since then. No bites but it was a ton of fun just learning to cast correctly. Looks like I have another sport to throw money at along with hunting now.

Look at it as quality time with nature. Alone on a stream or in the woods is sometimes the best thing. Good luck brother and knock em dead.

10 years ago I had a buddy take me to Lake Las Vegas and taught me how to fly fish, it was a great day of casting practice for me. The romance of fly fishing was delivered to me via a movie called "A River Runs Through It" if you haven't seen it, it's worth a watch.

Then get some Stimulators (pattern) and hit the Deschutes May-June.
Floating lines.

Aren't you in Colorado? I mean I have no problem visting CO for some hunting and fishing. If you're here in OR than I would love to go fishing with you. I enjoy spending time in nature and want to find someone to learn from.

Two handed Fly Rod, invented on the river Spey! Rods are between 12 to 23 feet long, and can cast incredible distances accuratly!
Perfect for really big fish all the way down to a tiny 3 weight for small waters!

You can definitely get some money invested in it. I love sitting in the kayak tossing Carey Specials and Wooley Buggers for trout with my 4wt. Enjoy the new addiction!

I'm a power fisherman. 65# braid, 3/0 hooks, hooksets that result in fish flying out of the water and landing somewhere behind me.
