Just got a Level 2 Evacuation Notice

I'm back from town. A bunch of friends have generously offered to help us evacuate if we have to.

I just have a few more things to get ready and we're good to go. I'm not happy about this, but fretting doesn't help.

I don't care if the house and possessions go, it's just stuff, and stuff, like money, comes and goes. My girl, the dog and cat and a few basics will be enough. As long as we're safe and healthy the rest of it is just life on life's terms.

I have a deal with God, I run the footwork department and He runs the results department. It keeps my life simple and it works.

Note: I didn't say it was always easy.

Yessir, Dad's in charge, no doubt about that. And when we veer off course, there's always the nudge to get us back to where we need to be. Sometime is has to be not so subtle, at least for me... May the Lord's blessings be upon you and your family as you deal with this turmoil.

Over 540 personnel are now engaged on the Garner Complex in southern Oregon

MERLIN, Ore. - The Garner Complex, made up of 12 fires in Josephine County, grew in the past 24 hours by about 700 acres. It's size was estimated this morning at 960 acres. More than 540 personnel are engaged on the fires, including ODF's Incident Management Team 2. The team is directing operations from the Incident Command Post at the BLM Sprague Seed Orchard in Merlin, Ore.

Ground and aerial resources are being used to fight the fires, which were caused by lightning. This morning there were nine fire engines, two water tenders, seven dozers, eight helicopters and 18 hand crews assigned to the fire. With dozens of wildfires in southern Oregon and five other incident management teams from different agencies deployed in the region, finding fire crews, air support and equipment is a challenge.

The team managing the fires plan to fully contain the smaller fires in the complex, construct firelines around the larger ones and keep looking for any new fires in the area.

Among the fires in the complex are the Grave Creek Fires, Spencer Creek Fires and Pleasant Creek Fire.

Holy smokes, I've been praying for rain all summer. Had a forest fire 2 miles from my house and didn't hear jack until it was all over. Firebag is ready to go when needed. I hope the wind continues to blow in your favor.

I just got back from dropping Brandi off at work. There's lots of smoke in the valley, but the air quality isn't too bad at this point.
So I'll essentially just be standing by today.

One kind of cool thing about all this is realizing that I seem to care even less about my stuff than I thought I did. I gave up "Stuff-itis" years back but things still tend to accumulate over time.
The big drag would be if we have to give up our food storage. Loss of the pantry would be terrible financially as well as a big hit on our preparedness. I worry more about the loss of food than the money.

Anyway I'll keep you posted.

I admire your attitude. Many cannot figure what is truly important in life but you know.

If you get that feeling or the wind picks up etc.. do not wait for them to say go, evacuate ahead of time because being stuck behind someone who is in a panic or evacuating with everyone else in the area can get dangerous.

It's hard to get news. It seems that once a fire becomes large enough to be labeled a "Complex" like ours has it's almost impossible to dial the info down to local info.

And I don't hear any mention of the fire in your area up here - we're getting plenty of reports on the fire in the Gorge by Biggs Junction.

My next door neighbor just called, he's leaving right now. He just came back from town and he says it's at the top of our mountain.

So far one humongous tanker, one large one and a mess of choppers have gone by both full and empty.

False alarm!

Just after I posted I heard a vehicle in the driveway and it was two firefighters from the Applegate FD. They said we're still at Level 2 and the fire is still a ways away and they were quite sure about it.

So thanks to the firefighters, thanks to the good folks here for your prayers and kind thoughts and thank you to the Man Upstairs for letting me suck wind another day.
