We lost a couple hours ago due to a moron outage. Someone creamed a pole or box leaving us in the dark. Thankfully it happened before sun went down. Made it far easier to get the gensets up and running
I saw where WSDOT put out an advisory warning people not to drive over downed power poles. They didn't advise against crashing into the ones still standing on the roadside. If they had, I'm sure that would have prevented your outage.:rolleyes:

The two 100Ah Lithium Ion batteries their harness and the power outlets. On off switch and Fuse panel The batteries are locked down to the floor.

This is a view of the Charger for the batteries it mounts under the passenger seat (best I could do to match the called for clearances) It plugs into the Floor so can be disconnected from the jeep with a single Anderson 50amp plug as well as from the Batteries with another Anderson plug. This setup keeps the RV batteries completely seperate from the Jeep battery and will only draw from the jeep when the Alternator (a 105amp Delco 10si Marine) The jeep battery is a 950CCA series 31 Lead Acid truck battery the biggest I could remodel the inner fender to allow in the stock location. I also carry two Lithium Jump start batteries both of which can be charged from the Jeep when running to use as emergency Radio power or jump start etc.

This is a photo of the whole back of CHUG before much packing would be done. The White and Orange box in the middle is the Lunch cooler accessible from the front. The Platform (plywood 14" off the floor) allows a separation of gear along with a way to strap down lighter weight items like sleeping bags, Clothes, Camera bags, etc. Below the Platform fits a 24 qt 12V fridge and a 8qt 12V fridge that is used as a freezer, Then a 3.2 Gallon water jug, My recovery gear and Jeep fluids and other jeep related items. On the Wheel houses sit battery lanterns First aid and medicine chest, 2 ton come a long, Wool Army blanket, And when all packed up my little travel bar.

The tent, Canopies, Table, Chairs, Cots, Air mattresses, Kitchen, LP, 3.2 tp 6.4 gallons of water, 20 Liters of Fuel, Hunting or Fishing or both gear, All will travel in the little trailer I am building 37" wide 66" long 24" tall fully enclosed and streamlined using the same tires and wheels as the jeep.

The whole upper 6" of the Trailer box is hinged at the front and lifts up like opening a 1960's trunk to allow loading and unloading over the sides.

See what you made me do....

We have done as much as a 2000 mile 9 day trip (350 off road) with every thing packed in the jeep but its so crowded And it provides no way to get a large game animal home. The trailer allows camping gear to be moved between the two vehicles and then the trailer also has a Luggage Rack to strap stuff down to. I figure with a little effort we can get an Elk or Bear home so thats a plus.

Lost power about 0115. Looks like the whole town is dark. Damn wind chimes are gonna make it nearly impossible to sleep. AND, our fans can't provide any white noise.

Lucky out in here in Aloha, Lost it for about 3 minutes then it came back! Lost a bunch of huge branches off my doug Firs though. Gotta love the weather!

I had to quit reading when I started to tear up.
In the OP, I didn't even mention the fact that my adjustable bed frame was stuck in the up position, forcing me to sleep on the couch, with the cat! It was either that or crawl under the bed and replace the dead 9 volt battery that allows the frame to return to the flat position.

Oh, the humanity!😭
 
We got the Big Blow here. I spent a few hours cleaning up after it yesterday. It won't be the first one this season. I looked out my kitchen windows and saw lots of tree debris on the ground that hadn't been there the day before. This time of year, I spend several days a week raking or blowing my driveway off. Raking if it's wet, blowing if it's anywhere close to dry.

Except for the house footprint, driveway and a couple of areas now laughingly called "lawns," the rest of the property is forested. Primarily mature maple, cedar and Doug fir. Some of the land around us is also forested. We've gotten enough wind storms so far this year that most of the maple that is going to break off has already done so. Including the top of one old tree that was a lot of work in early November. Now what we're getting is mostly big limbs from Doug fir.

Lots of people don't like "limb" wood. Some of those Doug fir limbs that come down are six or eight inches in diameter. You look at the grain of that wood, those are old; lots of tight rings. Once seasoned, it makes fair firewood. Yesterday, I got everything raked up, then chipped. I got the little stuff trimmed off the limbs. I still have a pile of poles (limbs) out there to cut up and stack. If it's not raining later today, I'll get to it. Then I'll be ready for the next chapter.

You've got enough energy for you, AND me! We have a small lot with quite a few mature trees behind us. Knowing I'd have to work tonight, I slept til 1pm, and didn't even look in the back yard. Most of the mature trees in back (east of us) are fir trees. They sit right on the crest of the hill and not one of them has it's original top in it. They've seen much worse than we had last night. Like October 1962.

At least our power came back on about 8:00 an hour later the damn internet dies probably from the same accident so later this morning when I check Comcast is saying yes we have a problem we expect to fix it by December 24th now there's some customer service 🤣🤣🤣

Your Christmas gift from Comcast! Did you ask if you will see a reduction in your bill since you will be a week without the service you pay for? I would ask that my bill be pro rated for the week without service and see what kind of response you get

It looks like you've put a ton of thought into that Jeep. It looks like a cj3a from the pics you've posted and everything is clean! You have a lot of power there with two batteries! I'm only running one house battery (yellow top) that is connected in parallel when the key is on through a big solenoid. I've also got a hundred amp solar panel on top of the jeep to keep it peaked. All my lighting is led so the battery's biggest job is to run the fridge. My jeep is currently setup to sleep three people and two small dogs with all our gear. It gets pretty cramped with three of us but it's wonderful for two. I've had as many as four before adding the fridge. One thing is for certain, everything has its place and you've got to be organized!! I'd love to have another Willy's and I've been looking lately but my wife commented that I need a shop to put all my jeeps in if I'm going to get another!

Its hard to nail down exactly what model my Willys is unless you just go by what the Title says. The Chassis is from a 56-57 CJ-5 (and has been that way since before Dad bought the jeep in 1962) The Tub is except for the Cowl Firewall Toeboards and part of the Tunnel all scratch built from Panels from Classic Enterprises and flat 16ga. The engine is from a 58-59 DJ-3A (134L very much Hot Rodded) The outward appearance is as you say of a 3A it has a 3A windshield and no Top bow pockets There is actually parts from 28 different Jeeps in it from 1946 to 1972 And more scratch built parts then you could possibly imagine. I built it with the idea of being able to drive 3/4 the way across the country if I wanted to. Amazing how much fun driving 80HP all over can be.

This is from last week on the way back down from Newberry Crater (which we found after running 9 miles up the hill the road was closed)

I don't mind the power outage except for the rain. My basement starts to flood if our sump pump cant work. Moving and setting up the generator and pulling the starter cord when I was younger wasn't so bad, now its a night mare.

So now the office and the crews office have not only no net, they have no phone service. I told her will at least now no one can call you or e-mail you to complain. Silver lining and all :s0140:
She did not seem to see humor in it. Thankfully I decided to keep the AT&T box I had ordered just to try out bit ago. Uses 5G. It was actually able to run the TV streaming last night without a mess. Now if the net is dead here for a week or more it will be interesting to see if it starts to throttle us since we use a LOT of bandwidth.

I toyed with getting a transfer switch installed here for the big genset. This is the first time in 3 years that we actually lost power so I kept putting it off. I was cussing myself last night for not when I was rolling all the cords back up and plugging everything back in again🤬

That's sounds a lot like my cj7. It's got so
many parts from ford, gm and Chrysler that it's a Johnny Cash Jeep!

I feel for you there. By the time I got the heaters out of the basement, ran cords all over the house, got both gensets going, got it all hooked up and running, I felt like I had worked hard all damn day.
Which always reminds me of how life used to be before we all had electric power. Some parts of the country didn't have it until the 1930's or later. Life was harder, we did more things by hand or candle or lamp light. We spent more time keeping warm. Which explains why a lot of people back in those days didn't have "hobbies," which were mostly for rich people. They spent too much time just living to have any to spare for hobbies.

The big old (rented) house that my dad grew up in on the farm in Iowa had a DC system, banks of big, glass, acid-filled batteries in the basement. That was in the 1920's. This was pretty fancy equipment then. But when the Depression hit, when the system needed work, there was no money for repairs. So they went back to oil lamps. Until the Rural Electrification Act came along and AC power was installed in the late 1930's. Which caused the house to need modifications, etc., which didn't happen right away. I think the lights went back on around 1940.

When I was a kid I used to enjoy the occasional outages. Like camping at home. Get the old Colman lanterns and cook stoves out. Candles around the house. Now? I want COMFORT, pretending like I am homeless is no longer fun :s0140: Before I started using my phone to power the music in the car I had been known to turn around half way to work to go back for that phone I forgot. I did laugh at myself a few times thinking something that was a recent addition to life was now this important. :s0140:
