Do they even say it anymore in school? I remember being confused when i entered junior high because they stopped saying the Pledge before school started. In grade school it was some times the best part of my day.

I memorized this at some young age and had little idea what i was saying. Well, here's my critical, adult analysis:

I pledge allegiance...
[kids can't sign contracts, but they can "pledge allegiance"?]
To the flag of the United States of America...
[To a symbol and inanimate object that has no will. Makes sense.]
And to the republic for which it stands.
[As much as i favor republic as a form of government, either this is makes as much sense as the last clause, or i'm pledging allegiance to a government that's wholly against everything that this country was founded on.]
One nation under God.
[Your beliefs are false if you aren't at least a monotheist. I favor the old ways, myself.]
Indivisible.
[Secession is bad, no matter how raw a deal your state is getting or how badly the fedgov is violating its contract with the people.]
With liberty and justice for all.
[amen.]

I think ultimately the Pledge demonstrates what a great country this is when you can choose not to pledge allegiance to our government, and there's no consequence. I hope i don't sound like an ***, but i probably do.

ETA: Oh, and Francis Bellamy, who wrote the original pledge, was a socialist.
