How much extra ammo do you carry with you?

Until I got a spare 15rd mag for my new carry, to have 2 spare mags, I was carrying the 2 factory mags being a total of 30+1 and a extended mag with 33rds...

Not a bad mag, it just stuck up quite a bit...

All loaded with Winchester Ranger 147gr 9mm...

I'm wondering how much extra ammo, if any, you guys carry with you on your normal average every day outings besides what's loaded, obviously? Just going to the store. Or just running random errands on your days off of work. I guess I am also curious if everybody takes their firearm with them to work and obviously leaves it locked up in the car or if you don't bother bringing your firearm with you when you drive to work? And I am also wondering how safe is it to store any extra ammo that you might bring with you on errands or to sit in your car while at work on these hot days? Thanks in advance for your insights.

1 chamber, full mag, and when I'm out and about typically a mag close by in my pack!

I always carry 1 full mag loaded +1 in the chamber. 2 spare mags as well. Sometimes I'll carry more, depends on where I am.
I would much rather have more than I need should the need ever arise, than to not have enough.

So this equates to 37-50 rounds of 9mm typically depending on my carry. Occasionally more.

The cold around here....ain't really a factor I'd worry / wonder about with ammunition.
Something to consider with the cold weather is just how the bullet will perform when going through layers of clothing.
A think layer or coat may cause the bullet to start expanding too soon and hinder its penetration.

Or it may plug up the bullet and it won't expand. Bullets are funny things.

You're right, that is a great band name…lol! Okay! That makes sense. I see a lot of puffer jackets right now. So having extra ammunition is good for that…or to be a really good shot.

I don't think the cold is going to make a difference really. On another note, I don't ever leave them in my car.

Good point mags in the car will rust due to cold/moisture. Especially if it's a USA made sig mag (non stainless I mean). Probably will start rusting the first or second day. Italian made sig mags are much better.

That's a good point too. Leaving them in the car though is pointless, unless it's a toy car in your backpack that you take with you. In no defense situation ever will you be able to say "Hey attacker person, please hang on while I go over to my car and get my gun and/or extra magazines so I can defend myself (or others)".

That's like having asthma and leaving your inhaler in your car.

I just think of actually being in the car and having a terrible situation arise. Protest, riot, car jacking with multiple attackers, etc. I cannot bring my firearm into work with me.

All of those are very valid. Drawing while seated in the car can be challenging. Worth extra practice. It's on my list of things to train.

In Oregon we had SB 554 pass a while back, which is stupid, and it tries to make more places restricted while also requiring more "safe storage" and increases liability if your firearm isn't "stored securely", is stolen and used for crime.

So, basically it's a "Leave your firearm in your car because you can't carry here, but if it's stolen, you're liable." law, which violates federal 2nd and 14th protections of the right to self defense. Essentially they are trying to scare people into not carrying. For me, it's even more reason to not leave my firearm in my car.

That sucks you can't carry at work. I'm fortunate enough that I work from home, 99.9% of the time. That said, despite policies and "Gun Free" signs (which carry no force of law in Oregon), the only places I don't carry are Courthouses, or places where they scan with me with metal detectors and would ask me to leave (which I just don't go to).

I usually carry my Canik, so 18+1, I see plenty of people carrying multiple mags, just not me. Even if I carry my G19, just one 1 mag and chambered.
