Learned about this today. All firearms, ammunition, and archery sales are taxed 11% in ALL US states to help fund habitat and species control. Without guns and ammunition sales going through, Fish and Game gets their budget slashed. Regular hikers, birders, and other outdoor enthusiasts get harmed by 2118 because road repair, emergency services, and anything else you can imagine that Fish and Game manage will lose money.

Glad you heard about this. Better late than never. I had learned about this in my Hunter Safety class in Montana, in 1965. This law was passed with the wholehearted support of the avid hunters and fishermen in the country at the time.

If you look a bit more closely at the law, you will see that not only does this excise tax go to support nearly everything wildlife, but it is also tied directly to the number of hunting and fishing licenses sold by the individual states. You may have had that "Aha moment", thinking that reduced firearms and ammunition sales will impact wildlife and habitat funding. You are correct. To a point. It will be impacted, a little at a time, chipped away at just like our 2A rights.

I have a pipe dream. If every gun owner that actually hunts and fishes (purchases licenses) would just take one year off from hunting and fishing and NOT buy a license, that would have an immediate impact on what the Game Department would receive in funding for the following fiscal year. Money talks, BS walks. There are too many Sportsmen and women out there who don't fully comprehend just what power they have. If it comes down to it, we can collectively dry up funding for an entire state agency. Think that would get their attention??
