Ham is it really worth it ? Not Really !!

Isn't ham radio like the internet? Lots going on, but is it a reliable source of information? Verification of facts limited, just like the internet? Could be used for evil purposes as well as good?

The source would have to be vetted in the long run would any credence be given it.
For me, a totally uninformed ham person, I could visualize getting a portable receiver just for info, like in real SHTF, finding of a place to barter perhaps.. that place would have to be vetted first-hand by trusted sources otherwise it'd just be considered a highly suspect murder beacon/come here bait.
