For playing at home I picked up the Spark amp. Absolutely love it, wish they had these when I was first learning to play. The modularity is amazing - you can get extension cabs and footswitch for live performance, connect your phone to manage tones and settings via an app, run backing tracks and metronome... And the tone quality is surprisingly good. Highly recommend checking it out.

I saw Rick in Medford in 1981 or 1982. That black Super Axe of his was awesome. If I ever found a black lacquered, not stained one, I would buy it. Just for the nostalgia. Unfortunately, as a lead guitarist, the upper fret access isn't good enough for me. It;s like an Epi Casino. Beyond fret 15, you are done. Interestingly, there really is no radius at all on this Gretsch Super Axe's fretboards. Almost like a classical guitar. But, I guess that;s how Chet wanted it.
Hey I wanna ask you something about these guitars. I played the Baby Taylor before and I really like the feel of it because the neck feels wide but has the neck thickness of the modern C electric guitar. I been going to Guitar Center back and forth 7 years ago and I just played the heck out of that guitar. They guy said. "Are You Gonna Buy That?"

This is what I wanna ask you. Someone told me a while beck, If I was gonna get the Baby Taylor, I'm better off getting the GS Mini because he said it sounds better. Of course before I buy it, I'm gonna play the heck out of it first. I was just curious what are the difference between the two? I see the other one is Mahogany and the other one is Sapele. I dont know much about acoustic guitar besides I had a Yamaha Acoustic Auditorium that I played since childhood to college. That was the only acoustic I had it it just sounded great. I wanna get back to that routine again.

What is the difference between the sound and performance between the two? Thanks!

You can't tell anything based on a sound clip in a video. Each piece of wood is going to be different. Also, most of the sound's characteristics come from the top. The sides and especially the back, mainly serve as a reflector.

What's your budget? My friend is selling a 24 inch scale Martin. It's about the size of the GS mini. She had Charlie at McKenzie River Music set it up. The set up was $375.00. But she understands that she's not going to get the $3500 it cost new out of it. I just adjusted the truss rod last week after she put new strings on it.

It has a K&K pickup in it.

I'm getting an all around beater guitar. A guitar that I will play not like a collector.

Generally speaking mahogany is going to sound deeper, sapele will sound brighter. What is better is entirely up to you. Listen to them side by side if you can.

Is sapele like a type of wood or...? I will definitely play it side by side if I can and if they have it available on the floor. If not atleast I know if I look at other guitar with sapele so I can compare it. I know the sound of mahogany very well especially when plugged it. I played a jazz box for a long time. This is just the first time I head of the other one.

I'm done with collecting guitars for almost 30 years. Since when I bought my 2nd house that's it.
When I was in high school up to when I was jamming with a friend in Los Angeles, I was using a 200 dollar guitar and I can play over 150 songs. Since when I started holding guitar that are over $2,700, that skill went down to the bottom.
The best sounding electric guitars I own are not even made by Gibson or Fender, It was both custom made.
Today and tomorrow, I'm going for the sound and a guitar that I can play the heck out of it. Not the guitar that will play me. :s0090:

My Schecter tempest 40th! It's for sale 😉

We should build some Brian May Replicas. Guyton now sells parts kits that include everything except the pickups. The kit is about $650.00. But the rest of the guitar would be cheap as far as materials. Just use junk. That's what May did because that is all that he had.

Now that's a great guitar... Seriously! I had a "Burns" Brian May before and I really-really like the sound of it. That is by far the fattest neck I ever played which I actually prefer. Its a slightly bit fat (it was 1 inch thick) but I wouldn't mind taking off .075 to .100 of an inch. Its was very easy to do it with the sander because I've done it before. But the sound of that guitar is just totally different from others. Hate to say it even the first time I bought the guitar it was destined to be sold because I was try to earn money for a better future. With a stroke of luck, I had the guitar signed by Brian May in We Will Rock You in Las Vegas in 2006. It was a long story. My best friend works at the Paris hotel and he called me that night.... I will tell you all about it one day.
I sold it for a chunk of change. That is one of the key element that in buying my 2nd house. I will look for the photo in my other computer and see if I can get it running again.
But honestly going back to the guitar, that is a guitar to be had. The sound and the neck is perfect for my taste. I know alot of guitar players couldn't stand playing it because of the size of the neck.

What do you like about the specs of that kit?

It has the real, proper mismatched screws, the real motorcycle valve springs and proper reproductions of the original bridge/saddles….everything.
Okay sounds great. Is that a 2 point pivoting tremolo? Do you think that guitar and the system can easily handle a 10-52 string setup?
