I'm tellin' ya, save your old, worn out COTTON socks to slide over your guns.

Looks kinda 'cheesy' but hey, they are free and keep my guns DUST FREE, and they BREATH and no issues with moisture!

It takes two for a rifle but one cut off at the end of the grip works great for handguns!

Spray 'em with a little silicone for extra protection!

I've got exactly one, that I bought about 40 years ago, an Uncle Mikes. I bought it to keep my fancy Ruger .223 Model 77 Mk II in. But in my experience, it suffers as much bump and bruise potential from screwing around with taking it off and putting it on as if it was just handled bare. I've also wondered if it's just as well to leave the guns bare so that air can circulate around them. I've got Golden Rods in the safes to reduce humidity already.

No I am a cheap SOB. Also. Just wash them with non-chlorinated detergent before using. I have a ton off sport socks that get a hole in them at the front. Work great to store your pistols or rifle in!

Just be careful with the silicone ones.
That chemical is not friendly to wood .

Heck no! I wrap handguns in them as well. Keeps the dust off.

I suspect it was repurposed, worn out socks were the 'impetus' for the store bought ones.

Cotton socks are best used for lighting on fire. I wouldn't subject my guns to anything I definitely wouldn't subject my feet to.

I love repurposing things myself but new gun silicon infused socks are so cheap and made to fit its hard to pass up buyin new.

My socks that get holes in them get mended. Eventually everything wears out beyond initial intention; when socks are no longer wearable, they go in the rag boxes in the garage. I use worn-out textiles for gun cleaning, working on vehicles, etc. Old towels never leave my establishment; they become "car towels." Mrs. Merkt wonders just how many is too many but I've never determined where that point is.

Guns and sock recycling have been an item for decades, back in my youth they used nylons, but not for the guns, covering their heads robing folks.
My first single shot 12 ga I took to the woods rode protected in the leg of a Levi jean with one leg and 1/4th of the same side cut off and sewn up. Open and closure was the zipper. Good job of keeping from getting banged around in the truck

When my daughter was done playing lacrosse, I absconded her stick bags for rifle cases. I'd use them on annual pilgrimage to the in-laws in Wyoming or anywhere else I go that I know I will be walking in and out of hotel lobbies and parking lots. Nobody gives a second look at a black sports bag with a big nike swish on it, and I sleep great!
