WASPs were considered civilians, not military during WW2.
WASP - Women pilots who trained / ferried Military Air Craft during WW2.

Awesome! I took a WW2 history class in high school and for my final project I interviewed a lady who lived down the street from me who served as a WASP. She had some incredible stories. Now I need to find that cassette tape!
