If something like this came out, I would have expected a more of a youth-centric liquor like Crown-Apple or Parrot Bay.
That's why it's brilliant marketing imo. It's been done successfully before. Jagermeister means "master hunter" and was the sole pervue of old German conservative gentlemen. But then one marketing guy turned it into a fad college USA and elsewhere party drink and sales exploded and have stayed way way higher than with the old market.

I would bet glenlivet's goal is to bring a whole new market segment to their product and get name recognition, even if they lose money on the seaweed bags, and even if it's a short lived run it potentially can make a big difference in the long run I think.

Thats a good point.

Jaeger is gross. I never understood the popularity of it.

Must be an "acquired taste" or people just pretend, maybe both. I tried it a couple times and even drunk it gagged me. I suspect when it became "the thing", many convinced themselves it was good since they wanted to look cool.
When I was in school Coors was not sold here. People would drive to ID to buy it. Come back with a trunk full and it was THE BIG event, being invited to a Coors party. First time I tasted one I said "If we didn't have horse crap here would you drive to ID to buy it?" Needless to say I was not invited to the next big Coors party :s0140:

I agree I think jaeger was/is? mostly marketing hype. Like you were a badasz if u drank it or something.

I seem to remember something similar with absinthe a few years ago. Btw interesting fact about absinthe. It's made from wormwood, which grows as a very tough to kill weed all over eastern WA and OR. Someone on the east side needs to start their own still!
