Latest tactical gear project. Shoulder pads the biggest pain in the butt.
1000D Cordura in Olive Green which is a dead ringer for new TT OD green, OD webbing and edging (some different shades here... but thats largely manufacturer lot dye variance)
10x13 plate size
26" front total width
Simple plate bag rectangles
Padded shoulders
MOLLE and ALICE webbing
Works with both MOLLE and ALICE gear.. awesome for those users who has both.
Shown with old faded TT OD pouches and old USGI pouches.

Dummy foam training plates came in for display and fitment testing. Adjusted my gear setup for a more realistic patrol/defensive setup. And got my fiancee to model it :D
Shown against M65 woodland field jacket (I LOVE THIS JACKET....) and with Tactical Tailor current gen Olive Drab X harness (made in 2011) to show just how close the colors really are.
My pistol belt kit is missing belt pad and suspenders, the next project likely will be a low profile unpadded suspender/harness for the belt to be more comfortable underneath the armor shoulder pads.

Made this retro rig based on photo of US (supposedly USMC FORCE RECON) operators's rig.
1000D cordura nylon
1" mil spec webbing
2 1/4" mil webbing
YKK zipper
Shown with ALICE 4x M16 pouches, 1x Prc 68 pouch and 1x 2qt Canteen pouch clipped to it.

I picked up this 21 year old Mounted Crewman Compartmented Equipment Bag at the local flea market for cheap because it was missing the following items
5x fastex buckles
4x compression straps
2x metal loops for shoulder straps
Shoulder straps
2x D rings for shoulder straps
Basically it was nearly stripped of all its hardware except for the two remaining Fastex buckles... probably cannibalized for ALICE rucksack repairs/fastex mod

So.. I replaced the missing pieces, and added 6 triglide/strap pieces, and modified the D ring bottom units to also have ALICE style ladderlocks and straps to mount to the hiking frame I have, and then I made a couple 2" loop adapters that mounts to the frame via the grommet and pin method, so that I couldd fix the location and use the ALICE Kidney pad on the larger frame. No before pics, but there are unmodified bags out there for comparison.
Its HUGE. Standard 16" AR15 with collapsed stock in side pocket, and old school Hi Point carbine, for comparison against the bag, which is not even stuffed full.o_O
Would make an excellent game hauler if modify the dividers to open up on the inside or as an "I'm never coming home" vehicle bag.

Made this low speed, high drag 8 mag pouch  accepts both ALICE and MOLLE pouches, holds 8 AR mags, may be able to hold 308 mags but no promises on that. Tactical Tailor Olive green 1000D Cordura fabric, 1" and 2.25" USGI webbing plus black heavy webbing for the back as I ran out of the green webbing. ITW-NEXUS buckles on simple flaps after binning the crappy snaps and equally crappy velcro. Could work good on plate carrier fronts. Sorry for upside down first picture. Whoops. Stupid phone

Here is one of my latest projects. It is my copy of the US PALM attack rack chest rig for AK mags. US PALM is out of business so I borrowed one my brother had and copled it. 0221182149a.jpg 0221182149.jpg 0201182241.jpg 0201182242.jpg 0201182240.jpg 0201182240c.jpg 0209181835.jpg 0209181835a.jpg 0201182240b.jpg

Sewn up a simple slick triple mag shingle in 500D Cordura, coyote brown coloring. Shown attached to Diamondback PC, Eagle LAND CIRAS, and Condor Medium MOLLE war belt pad. I think warbelt is one of the best uses for this minimalist slick mag pouch. 20180509_191930.jpg 20180509_193145.jpg 20180509_193152.jpg 20180509_194751.jpg 20180509_194607.jpg 20180509_174930.jpg

Sewn up a couple V strap adapters; and a large lumbar pack in 1000D Cordura, with MOLLE.... for use on an ancient MOLLE 1 waist belt. V strap adapters with 1.5" strap dividers and 1.5" webbing attahed to 1" webbing which connects to the metal loops on the MOLLE 1 belts. The adapters allows one to use a Tactical Tailor padded H harness from their MAV series, the MOLLE 1 belts originally comes with 1.5" webbing for the shoulder adjustment to the FLC vest pieces which are smaller and different than the later MOLLE II FLC vests. Base rig without pouches or pack. MOLLE 1 rucksack waist belt with the ruck plastic socket module removed. (note the 4 loops on the middle, its for the MLCE buttpack straps)

On a 3 piece MOLLE Utility belt (adjusted to the smallest possible points); no buttpack loops.

various views of the lumbar pack attached to the MOLLE 1 waist belt; and a size comparison of it between 1970s ALICE 3 day buttpack and the 1990s ALICE Woodland buttpack (Modernized Load Carrying Equipment/ Individual Integrated Fighting System version) which was issued with MOLLE 1 gear as well as the LBV series. the lumbar pack is easily double the size of the old OD pack, and roughly a third bigger than the Woodland pack.

shown with pouches setup; as follows.
2x Combat Medic Vest System Triple M16 pouches, 2x Canteen covers, 2x Tactical Tailor Large Utility pouches, 1x Tacctial Tailor large zippered medic pouch, and lumbar pack; on MOLLE 1 ruck waist belt.

MOLLE 1 utility belt smallest setup;
2x grenade pouches
2x CMVS triple M16 pouches
2x canteen covers

Sewn up a 4X Donkey D*** Redball Hi Point 9mm magazine Leg panel for a customer.
500D Cordura, Classic Ninja Black
Pleated magazine pockets, a departure from previous magazine pocket designs
Velcro retention straps
2x Belt loops with adjusting buckles; belt loops accommodate up to 2.25" USGI Pistol Belts; recommend use with standard Patrol Belts, gun belts, or Riggers belts, not with MOLLE belts of greater than 2.25" width. (Can make one to attach to MOLLE instead)

Closer view, focus on magazine pockets
DSCF1501.JPG
View of leg strap adjusters, whose ends are sewn into plastic loops that slides over the main straps, for a better retention/cleaner look as opposed to Velcro strap wraps or elastic loops
DSCF1502.JPG Close up of belt loops and adjusting buckles.
DSCF1503.JPG Velcro retention straps; I formerly had issues sewing velcro to anything, until an old lady told me a trick; sew it with the velcro panel facing down relative to the needle. Worked like a charm!
DSCF1504.JPG
Close up of the pleated magazine pockets; bottom edge all sewn up. Hardest part were where the leg straps were; this required punching the needle through with my hand on the wheel instead of the motor and belt drive.
I realize not everyone here likes Hi Point carbines; but it seems that I have had far more sales of gear for them than for ARs or AKs.

If you ever want some more paid work... I have a backpack that needs some Molle sewn into the hydration pouch so I can clip the holster inside for concealed carry...

My friend Logan started out just like you. Making or improving your kit. He started Tactical Tailor. You should take on some contract work.
US mil/govt contract work? Thats a pretty high bar to get entry into
I do recall some stories and drama regarding a few companies ripping off the US Gov on contracts by using illegal labor or by never delivering.
And a drama that supposedly involved the founder of Pre-MSA Paraclete and the NATICK on the subject of MOLLE fasteners; although in the 1980s Lowe Alpine had a very similar method used for attaching shoulder straps to its Vector Loco pack called the Torso Ladder System, in conjunction with the Parallux Frame which is basically an internal frame consisting of two aluminum stays and copious amount of padding on the hip belt.

Here is the interesting thing... I have so far, sold more gear dedicated to the Redball 20rd magazines for the Hi Point 995 carbine, than for the AR15.... probably because there are just SO many companies making AR15 gear that people can pick and choose what they want pretty easily from established companies... whereas there seems to be no one else making the magazine pouches or rigs specifically for the Redball 9mm magazines. I do however know that some older magazine pouches can carry them, such as the Grease Gun magazine pouches, but not as securely or capable of being mounted to MOLLE.

Now whether that means there is a potential for a contract work for a reseller/retailer, or not, I am not sure.

I use a 1960s Singer sewing machine, and most of the fabrics and webbing are sourced locally and some off Amazon... But if I were to get into larger production runs; I would need a faster, industrial machine, and likely need to start ordering stuff in bulk. It is difficult enough in a studio apartment with what I have . I don't mind going and working for Tactical Tailor, however I am no fan of the current political climate in WA, nor OR....
