One thing I've learned over the years doing SAR in different states and climates is that.

Wool will keep you warm even when wet. Where synthetics will fail. Go sleep with a wet down bag. No thanks!

Polyester is a good material. It might not perform as good as wool when wet, but dries much faster.

Just stay away from campfires...
