I have numerous problems with this type of policy (especially if it applies to take out meals). In my mind it is a policy that rewards everybody equally regardless of the effort they put forward. If you do the bare minimum to keep your job you will be rewarded the same as the guy/gal busting their arses next to you. We are slowly seeing these pay equity policies enacted by government and the private sector. It is going to slowly steer us in one direction that is not a good place to go.

I think this is a grand idea. Let the owner who came up with this idea see how long he lasts paying his people this wage no matter how they work. Should be fun to see how long it lasts. The idea sounds good. Problem is he has to compete.

As a diner I feel like the only monetary way to reward a server is with the level of tip. If I get bad service, which has happened from time to time, I don't want to reward the server with the same level of tip as a server who provided good service. If the restaurant want's to have a tip sharing policy that equally distributes tips among employees, that is fine. Let them deal with their employees over that type of policy. This policy is a way to force max tipping regardless of how your service was.

I don't eat out much these days and this type of policy definitely won't get me out there more often.

I don't see an issue. If you don't agree with this style of running a business, don't use the business. They're transparent about it, so it isn't a hidden charge. If the market and consumers don't believe it's a good way to run a business I would think they'll soon be out of business. If not that would show its popular among people. I don't see it as an issue worth being upset about.

My issue is that it's another effort to push us towards socialist type policies. Equity seems to be the flavor of the times and we are seeing it everywhere. It's sad to see the private sector encouraging it along. I won't be spending my money there, I just hope it doesn't spread.

You can't stop ideas from spreading. That's why they're so powerful. Socialism has been around as long as capitalism, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. It's very popular among a large population of this country. People like equity, it's a socially popular concept.

WWII did.

Agreed and it's been advancing on us at an ever increasing rate lately. Government mandated equal pay laws are one example. Another war won't slow it down this time since it's coming from within.
There are definitely some valid examples coming from government side. I would never claim socialism ended after WW2. That would be wrong, historically speaking.

It can not possibly spread on its own. Socialism only works when its done at gun point for a reason. This virtue signaling may sound real good but, the business will fail. When they do the news will either ignore it, or try to blame the fail on something else. The only way this "works" is when its done by force.

I used to be OK with the concept of tipping. My single-Mom raised me on tips. I get it.

But these days I hate tips. The "tip jar" is in places it shouldn't be, and appearing on EFT transactions for over-the counter stuff without service. I intentionally use cash at these places so I can take my change and walk away.

I like the idea of getting rid of tips.

Why accuse it of socialism? I can look at it as capitalism.

Employees should NOT rely on the "generosity" of others to make ends meet. Employees need to seek out jobs that pay them what they want. Employers should agree to pay their employees a certain amount, and that is how it should work.
Want more pay? Get a different job!
Don't like the service at a place with fixed wages? Don't go there. The owner can resolve service issues himself.
As if tips help improve service...pfft, I've had lots of bad service with tips hanging in the balance. Never seemed to help.
An employer should be free to terminate an employee for poor service.

Oh, and BTW, I strongly disagree with striking/protesting about pay. Don't like it? Get a higher-paying job, or figure out why life is so expensive. Hint: taxes, bureaucracy, welfare and outsourcing.

After re-reading that story....

There is one thing I disagree with.
They shouldn't have a "22% service fee"
They should just increase their prices all around 22%
It's beginning to feel like a cable or phone bill when they break everything down like that. I don't appreciate all of the lines on the bill. I just want to see the total of what it costs to eat there, no games.

My view of socialism is that it rewards everybody regardless of the effort they make to be rewarded. If you want tips strive to become a great server not a great dishwasher.

People will only pay the price if the food is good and the service is too. You can have all the reasons in the world to change but what you offer better stay worth the change to the customers.

Plus with inflation really kicking in this restaurant is doomed to failure.
