Elk General Firearm Tag Recommendation

I have typically hunted Coastal Elk, 2nd Season, because it's the only time I can guarantee I'll be home. (My 5 weeks of vacation every year get taken with other stuff). I did elect 1st Season in 2015 and wound up being in Kansas at the time.
I wanted to go out with my daughter again this year, and I was thinking of Rocky Mtn Elk and hunting the Biggs / Columbia units with the extended seasons. However, looking at OnX, almost all the BLM lands are surrounded by private land.
Has anyone hunted these units? What's the access like?

She's still a little young to handle a firearm, or did you put a 30-30 in her crib?
