I had a cool opportunity to help two Veterans bag their first Archery Elk the end of August. This was near Gold Beach Oregon. It's on a 300 acre private ranch where two guys had the idea of honoring wounded veterans with an Archery Elk hunt. The owners of the ranch were in favor and they made it happen. Five years now of hosting this event. It's one week long starting on opening day.
Typically, they are co-sponsored by the Wounded Hero's organization, however this year there was no communication with that organization, so they set out to make it happen on their own. They received referrals for 2 Veterans from the Klamath County area and both were accepted. Each one had only 1 month of Archery experience, but both were very accurate in practice rounds the night before when they arrived at camp.
They have a great community of volunteers to help provide meals each night! Others volunteer to help year round with grounds keeping and camp site improvements. The place, and stock of Elk, are really impressive!
I volunteered to play 'Camp-Jack' and I decided it'd be cool to film video the event. So here's my video of what went on, which should explain how it went.
Enjoy!
