Nutri Nuggets here for both cat and dog. Costco convenient, rated 3.5, gets a recommend so I guess I haven't been abusing them too much although there are definitely better options. The dog gets supplemental protein from our plates, the cat gets plenty of bunnies, mice and squirrels. This dog's only been to the vet once for an abscess, which she has again dangit.

Years ago one of my hounds became diabetic, that was a lot of work. I had to check her urine every morning and give her a shot a day. She made it to 10 but would have episodes occasionally which would require a vet stay for a couple days to get back in control of her blood sugar. Quite an expensive dog but my wife and I took it very personally as we considered it our fault she became that way. Of the 4 hounds I had she was the only one with the condition but it was probably a result of a lot of non-canine food according to the vet and she was susceptible. The hounds were our garbage disposals for food scraps. We learned, now we only let the dog have left-over meat, bones and eggs and I only feed her when I think she needs it, not everyday. She's pretty good, if she eats a piece of chicken she probably won't eat all her kibbles and leaves them for the next day. Animals are healthier lean and hungry. If she's being sedentary I won't feed her much but if she's out running around the property chasing dirt bikes or playing hard then I adjust accordingly.
