Do you go to concerts?

I haven't been to a concert for probably 20 years. And I think the last one was a Christian group in Des Moines, IA.

Before that, it was Van Halen, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue back in the 80's...

So, now I have a girlfriend who loves live music and often goes to local clubs to see bands. I saw that Toby Keith was playing this summer at a casino in Spokane and mentioned it to her.

She got all excited so I started looking into it.

Holy cow! Talk about inflation! $120 per ticket!

Then checked the room rate at the casino, and they want $300 for that Tuesday night. Told her I wasn't paying no $600 to see Toby Keith.

But then I also saw that they had Travis Tritt and Charlie Daniels the next week for "only" $70 each for good seats. Then checked at a Days Inn a half mile away and a room is $90 that night. Girlfriend said that would be awesome as well.

So I think I'm going to get tickets for that concert.

Any advice? I haven't been for decades so I don't know any of the latest things to look out for or plan for. I figure a Charlie Daniels concert should be pretty low key.

not in the last 20 years. Last show I saw if I remember right was GnR at the bubblegumz back in 94 or so, it was whatever day slick willie was up there.
One hell of a odd day, got there early, walked across the steel bridge to find some food, saw Ann and Nancy Wilson preform at riverfront then just happened to stand across the street from Slick willie as he got out of his limo.

I do not go to concerts. Too many stupid people doing stupid things for my liking. Not to mention the absolutely insane price of tickets.

Also...under the category of "stupid things," concerts are nothing but a sea of idiots holding up their damn cell phones recording. Not just a quick picture snap but video recording the whole damn concert. You can't see anything but a bunch of cell phones.

I'm also not allowed to go to school performances anymore. The last time I went the woman in front of us was holding up her iPad to video her precious spawn. And it was the larger iPad! I asked her if she was there to watch her kid. She said "yes," of course. I said, "so am I but I can't see crap through your damn iPad!"

I'm not very patient with stupid people.

Last Concert was Roger Waters in Tacoma. Doing THE WALL. after sitting there for 3 hours looking at some chicks BUTT in my face so she could stand up and video the concert with her damn cell phone. I'm done. No more. The wife has bad knees and couldn't stand for the whole concert and I being me couldn't let her sit there while I saw the concert (THE WALL afterall is a visual concert).

The concerts at the rose garden unless your straight in line with the stage sounds like your in what your in a huge cement bath tub the distortion hurts my ears.

A few outdoor concerts lately have had good sound but even thats rare. I like my music to much to listen to it over driven and distorted. I have 2600 LPs and a $1800.00 turntable when I want to listen to music. SO no more concerts for me.

Advice? No, not really. I don't like large venues. The Roseland or Crystal Ballroom are as big as I like to see a band. I prefer a $10 cover at a bar. Don't think you could give me tickets to a stadium show.
If you can show the lady a good time and have an overniter for 2 bills (alright, 3 with drinks), you'll probably have a great time. Myself? I'm too cheap to enjoy seeing anyone perform if the ticket cost more than I made that day.

When I was younger I enjoyed going to concerts...but not so much now , with the cost of the tickets and crowds....

I go to all the shows that I want to see at that casino, but I have a hookup. I'll be at both of those shows. Last year I saw Aaron Lewis, Willie Nelson, Little big town and Brad Paisley there.

The way the seating is set up, theres not really a bad seat. It's a pretty nice venue.

I'll second Andy's opinion. The cost of concerts is almost unreasonable and you have to get shoehorned into the crowded section unless you bought standing room tickets early for twice the price

$5ish for a beer. Free parking and yes, tribal land is gfz. Security checks bags upon entry, but no metal detectors.

As a practicing recluse, the last thing I want to do is attend anything with a crowd.

Herds of human beans are a thing of the past for me.

Heck, I don't even like going into a small grocery store.

Far too many people inside...shudder.

P.S. The cost to attend a concert among other things you might want to buy while there, (a beer) is of course another reason I no longer go to them. I really dislike feeling I've been had...

There were high hopes for live virtual reality concerts taking off, but so far there's no replacement for live entertainment, but someday they'll perfect the equipment and lower the cost.

my own notion of what constitutes 'entertainment' has evolved considerably over the last 50 years. While the visage of Alice Cooper & his anaconda fetishizing onstage circa 1967 trying to introduce me to his notion of 'entertainment' remains all too annoying. Whatever his rendition of being electrocuted on stage and some weird death-cult degenerative proto-punk/hard rock/zombie/why-am-I-still-here the experiment did not result in converting me into becoming a fan.

Other than the unpredictable potential entertainment value for a young adult in those days going to a large event with friends, of the maybe-a-dozen shows I saw, none of them generated a 'do it again' interest. Well....Pink Floyd did catch me 2 or 3 times.

Saw Willie before the legend, about 1976. Enjoyed the show. Smaller venue & no fire pots etc.

Personal enjoyment is the point as far as I can tell. I've never made it all the way through any Grateful Dead song as far as I can remember, yet I know a couple geezers that as recently as last summer raved about a ?Spokane? show they had just attended.

No, not in adulthood anyway. I went to the Eugene Opera at least twice as a child with my paternal grandmother. And I went to a rock concert with a girlfriend in late adolescence. Other than that, nothing comes to mind.

The last member of our crew to go to one was the wife went and saw The Piano Guys. I have authorization to buy tickets if José Carreras ever performs in Oregon, but that hasn't happened yet.

I came to Opera late in life and found it one of my greatest musical pleasures.

Two of my favorites: "Nessun Dorma" (Give me Pavarotti) and "Flower Duet" (especially when sung by Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca)

Along with most of the work of the composers during "The Romantic Period".

Try one of the two mentioned in the second paragraph. You just might be surprised by undiscovered beauty.

I still go, but not as often as I used to. Bands break up, people die, music changes...
Have seen hundreds of shows, have a few on the books for 2019 and a few pending.
Cost is high, but people pay for what they really like.

Earplugs, cash, comfortable shoes, & your ticket should get you through the night.
