"While we respect our members' right to dictate their own company policies, as our industry's political action committee, we feel it's necessary to alert you to some troubling "political action" within the industry: Dick's Sporting Goods has now joined forces with the radical gun control movement.

Dick's efforts to become the face of "corporate gun control" were launched with a February announcement of plans to discontinue rifle sales to law-abiding citizens between the ages of 18 and 21.

Then came the baffling decision to destroy their unsold firearms.

Federal lobbying disclosure records filed this week show that Dick's recently hired a firm to lobby for gun control on behalf of the company, on the heels of their call for "common sense gun reform" to include banning "assault rifles," high-capacity magazines, and bump stocks, enact universal background checks, and more.

This is far more serious than one company making its own strategic decisions. This sort of political grandstanding will negatively impact our entire industry. We simply won't stand for it.

Members of NSSF know that our industry is different from the rest. Our work is deeply rooted in our values and respect for the Second Amendment. In the face of those who want to destroy everything that we strive for, we don't waiver – we stand firm.
