I know William McKnight, he goes by Mac. I haven't talked to him in close to 10 years but when I knew him he was extremely knowledgeable about use of force and law enforcement tactics. Last I heard he was making his living instructing the armed security license classes in OR and WA, and giving expert witness testimony. He's also a very pro-cop guy (he was a reserve officer in Woodland, WA for years) and I don't think that his morals would allow him to side with the plaintiff in this case unless he truly thought the BP agent in question messed up.

The news article paints a picture that the agent has changed his story multiple times. His initial email to his supervisor is different than what was stated in his deposition in 2022. This case is really a he-said-she-said type situation since we don't have camera footage or anything.

Its hard to judge from the article, it does sound like the agent screwed up though, regardless if he pointed the gun or just dangled it. I can see someone not local to portland and here to protect federal property during the "summer of love" riots being really on edge for their personal safety though.
