Curry County difficulty

Hello friends I've yet to meet,
I live in Curry County and need some advice.I want to acquire a CCP. I've taken the required class, have considerable firearms experience, have no criminal record, etc. I should qualify on every count. The difficulty is that I cannot get the Sheriff to respond, at all. I've called, written, even dropped in at the SO. I realize he is a very busy man with much more to occupy his busy days than to mess with me. That being said, I have tried for over a year now and cannot find a way to get this done. I appreciate all that he does in a very difficult situation. So, can anyone from around these parts give me a tip or a leg up to get this accomplished? Please?

did you contact the civil deputy? shes the one that takes care of concealed carry.

What do you mean by respond? Looks like you go down with your paperwork and apply. What have you tried?

Oregon is currently still a shall issue State (if you qualify, you get approved).

Looks like Curry County Sheriff records division does CHL applications. Thats whom you need to get an appointment from.

I'd just go down with your paperwork and see about dropping it off.

Curry County , with a total of 23,000 residents , I would think it would be fairly quick to apply , background check and receive license .

I got my CHL in Curry County 15 years ago. The sheriff was very pro-2A and issued my license quickly. I had to provide two character references. When I moved to Coos County and applied for a CHL there, it was considered a renewal, not a new license, and was also issued quickly.

That said, there's a slogan: "There's no hurry in Curry", referring mostly to contractors and building permits.

looks like you fill out the form and then call the # on the form. Did you try that?

Looks like you call the number to setup appointment time . Bring in paperwork , 2 ids ( one is photo ) finger printing and picture taken . Should be straight forward .

Not yet. I plan to go to the courthouse next., instead of another call.

Hello again from Curry County. It is now February of 2026 and this week I was FINALLY PRESENTED A CCP card. After my last coms about this things went from bad to worse. I did go to the office in late Oct last year got an appt which I showed up for. Din the prints and it all looked well. Nope. More excuses and barriers, lost records of my paid fees, lost prints (?) New prints, etc, etc.

Days turned into weeks of trips to the CCSO, phone tag and other BS. I finally became unreasonable, documenting unreturned calls and office visits. In the end I went up the food chain with my problem.( I really hate to do that. Instead of making contacts I may have made enemies instead of friends.)

I called the County Comissioners offices & pulled them into the game. This was a calculated risk, there is much bad blood between the Commissioners and the SO. There are historical, old issues involved there, mostly over funding, I suspect. But I did it after more than a year without a permit.

I have no information that I can call the truth after that risk, however, suddenly, all those issues, lost records, etc, vanished and I now have a permit. Did I do right ? I don't know and probably never will. But something changed and I got the card. Thanks to all of you who chimed in on this to help. There a bunch of good people here and you are all appreciated!

It probably rattled some errors in their SOP ( Standard Operating Procedures ) and they had to improve their quality . Good for you . This happens a lot in progress driven departments . Continuous Improvement in the end is the result .... A good one at that . Congrats .
