True.....I always forget about that state to the south. Just seems like you'd have bouncing ball bearings going every direction
Lethal? Oh heck yeah! Ricochets couple be a problem...

I was going to look for steel buckshot for fun, but I'll bet it's more likely tungsten, or something.
Expensive, I assume.

While it's a decent size, I think a bigger pattern board and more than one round per pattern would be a better test.
Ya know, sample size? ...
Long time trap, skeet, and bird hunter here.

You need a minimum of 10 rounds to begin to get a true picture of a shotgun / load combo pattern. There are many variables in a shot shell and the shots trip through the gun and then the air. You need a fair number of shots to start to understand what's going on with your loads.

Between 30 and 40 yards with #4 buck a mod choke gives a nice round pattern from my gun. it has taken a lot of coyotes.
When I take the grands coyote hunting over a decoy I'll put one on a shotgun , and the other on a rifle. The kids always want the shotgun. It's the most effective. DR
This combo has worked for me, shooting a large sheet of cardboard at the desired range will help with understanding the patterning.

00 steel? I honestly dont think ive ever seen any, do they really make that?
I'd never heard of it either. Which led me to look on Google:

One of the comments to the above mentioned that Federal made a buckshot load using tungsten pellets. Which is a kind of steel in most applications due to alloying.

It appears to be a rarity, for sure.

Re. the lead ban in California. I don't think buckshot hunting is all that common in Calif. since rifles are a preferred option. And for those who would use it, there are non-lead options that are more common than steel. Even if expensive. But lots of fancy shotgun loads are costly now. Then you've got many states where using buckshot is more common or required for hunting, those places don't have the lead ban, so they don't need to buy non-lead shells.

Steel for duck and goose hunting sucks! I wish we could still use lead for waterfowl like we can for upland game birds

Wouldn't want to give the bad guys lead poisoning would we?

This is the same company I purchased a choke for my Beretta 1301. I must agree the choke really makes the pellets pretty darn tight! Plus that brake makes it look sexy 😎
The video is what made me choose that one. Showing the concentration of every pellet at 40 yards was mighty convincing

I have a FN SLP shotgun and use an improved cylinder. It came with several chokes by default but I wanted stainless choke tubes instead.
