For all of you veteran competitive shooters I wonder if you can answer a few questions for someone considering getting into the sport. I've spectated a few matches at the Dundee range and I'm reviewing the USPSA rules but I'm still confused as to whether or not you can only shoot 9mm in carry optics and if so is there a maximum bullet weight that you can use if you load your own ammunition? I own mostly Sig Sauer handguns, one is P365 XL with Romeo zero optic and another favorite is the Xten with Romeo 2 . The XL is a favorite carry gun but has limitations to magazine capacity so I'm wondering if I should purchase a P320 in 9mm?

You should take what you have and go shoot a match. Your gear will not be limiting you in anyway, if it's your favorite gun, you will do well after you learn the game.
Carry optics I believe you can shoot any caliber 9mm and up most people shoot 9mm
Your Sig will work great!
There is no maximum bullet weight.

I have read and re-read the rules and scanned the production firearms list which leaves me even more confused in regards to the Xten. Above the list of Sigs it states no SAO but also states that all P320 modular platform handguns are acceptable. Both the P365 and the P320 are striker fired single action handguns. The P320 X10 has no trigger or physical safety however the 365 is an optional safety

If it comes with a magwell, take it off and you are good to go in CO.

Having said that, you'll be at a disadvantage shooting 10mm vs 9mm. Bring what you have and shoot a couple matches. When you get hooked you'll have plenty of time buy guns.

BTW, I do the registration for the Dundee and Albany matches. If it's your first time check the box for the "Introduction to USPSA". We do a brief safety review and make sure you are good to go for your first match.

Thank you for your information and assistance. Yes it will be my first time though I'm not ready yet , I'll have to re-subscribe to USPSA come January and I'm still researching belts and holsters and I'll need some mag pouches. I've already ordered blue bullets to load and if I'm not mistaken I won't need to chronograph my loads for CO's though I am going to purchase a chronograph for when I do get to that point

You don't need to be a USPSA member to compete? Well that's interesting and confusing. I'm a member of the CVSC in Dundee and several of my employees at the company I work for in Newberg may be interested in shooting in a competition so I'd like to pass that information onto them provided it's correct. I'm still current with USPSA through December and will likely resubscribe . Do we still need to have a login with practice score? I will check out the link that you sent me.

Speed steel is a good match to "dip your toes" in. TCGC is having their speed steel match this Sunday.

Yes this Sunday. You sign up at the match, not via Practiscore. The scores will post there though. Fee is $12. Match starts at 9am. 6 stages. I'll send you the gate code fo the match.

I've done the same as the OP and over-thought rules, competitive angles, etc. Dumb in retrospect.

Go join any bunch of shooters anywhere. They will welcome you and tutor you, laugh at any "rule" insecurity you have. It's a community of people who enjoy what they are doing and welcome others to join.

I've done this same anxiety thing vs. reality twice in my life, long time ago w/IDPA and more recently with service rifle. Don't get hung up, go shoot and be welcomed.

This sounds like a blast as well ( pun intended) . Doesn't TCGC also allow PCC in their USPSA matches? I now that Dundee does not but I've heard that other ranges in the area do.

Might be a little late, but to OP there is a new class this year called "Limited Optics" it would allow you to add a magwell and gas pedal if you so desired. I just added a magwell to my Carry optics gun and am shooting LImited optics this weekend. Ofcourse you can also go the 2011 route which is what the division was designed for best I can tell. But I like my Q5
