So my Savage A17 had become very unreliable the last couple of years and I have been on the hunt for a good deal on a CZ457 in 17 HMR since this past May. I have one in 22 MAG that will go 10 for 10 on the rats out to 150 yds so the 17 was a given. I found a great deal last week and made the arrangements to have it delivered to an FFL here and lets just say so much for the "great deal" at the end of the day. Here is the receipt for the fees and taxes. :s0054:

Dang that is rough.

Yes it is rough. But while we are complacent and pointing fingers elsewhere, it will be happening here too.

lets just say so much for the "great deal"
The $100 receiving fee seems steep. Yet I'm sure there are dealers here in Wash. who charge that much, I just don't know them. The FFL dealer I use charges $25 for long guns, $45 for handguns, plus the $18 WSP BGC fee.

"Great Deals" on Gunbroker get ground down pretty fast, too. It starts with shipping, then there are a couple of buyer GB fees, one is a "compliance fee" whatever that is. Lately, I think they've been tacking another $1 on for something. Then if you live in Wash. state, there is sales tax which in my location is 10%, then when the gun arrives at the dealer, add on his fees, plus the WSP BGC fee. So that inexpensive parts gun you bought for $100 turns into a $200 parts gun.

They should charge those fees for buying dildos and bongs too. Just to make it fair for everyone. Then see how the other side would act.

There's FFLs around here who charge $60-80+ for private party transfers. So it's happening here too. There is no such thing as a good deal anymore when fees are factored in.

Sadly….

I'm in Kali too. Th cheapest receiving fee$ as of late I've had to pay was $87 bucks, but they closed shop. I'm only doing FTF PPT these days or I'm not buying. My old go-to FFL used to charge $25 bucks for one 4473 with 5 guns, no receiving fee, and would hold it if I told him I'd have more coming in. He was getting a long in years and the regs were confusing him, so he hung up his shingle a few years back. Since we're in the 10 day 2 trip to the 01 mode, I'll usually drive to a buyer's FFL, for gas money, to save him money and a second trip. They always are appreciative, many sellers reciprocate. PAX

Yes it does. I am assuming the 'DROS fee' is the transfer/BGC fee correct?

I see a 'sales tax' and then 'other taxes/fees' - what were those for ? considering you already paid the DROS fee and a receiving fee.
No, the DROS is on top of the receiving fees. In Idaho it's usually $25 bucks to receive everywhere. PAX

AI Overview

In California, DROS stands for Dealer's Record of Sale. It is a system managed by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) that serves as a background check, registration, and reporting system for all firearm purchases and transfers within the state.

No idea on what they're taxing other than Kali has an 11% tax on firearm & ammo sales. Could be that. I haven't bought since the 11% took effect. PAX
