Some of the early Mosin-Nagants produced at Izhevsk were equipped not only with the hex receivers but also with shiny brass trimmings on the foreguard and barrel strap. Anybody know if that's anything special in terms of collectibility?

I've been around the major M-N sites and didn't find an answer posted.

Many thanks in advance for any info.

Brass endcaps on the upper handguard were from specific arsenals and years. Sometimes those caps are blued during the refurb process. 7.62x54r.net has an excellent rundown of what model years should have them.

Do they make the rifle more valuable? Yes. But only marginally if the rest of the stock isn't matched to the rifle's date.
