Looks like there is now a NIJ Level 3 or Level 4 building material that can be applied over existing Sheetrock, plaster, etc. Would be interested to learn more about their testing process, but sounds promising.

Must be a gimmick. First line of second paragraph says "it is environmentally friendly"…. That's usually a bad sign. Right up there with "gluten free", "inclusive" and "gender neutral"
Regular sheet rock is environmentally friendly, it is just gypsum and paper. Leave it outside and it turns directly into dirt.

What I hate is people trying to market "green" as if it means anything. There are many "green" products that are worse for "the environment" than older everyday products, but get all they hype and advertising about it simply because they are new to the market. The whole term is nothing but virtue signaling.

Aluminium oxide

Silicon carbide.

Boron carbide.

These all are ceramic armor materials and are also minerals/materials found in the Earth's crust  so in a way, ceramic armor is environmentally friendly :s0140:

Edit. Ballisticrete is a form of plaster paint? Huh. I'm skeptical that its the coating making things more bullet resistamt, considering how easily sheetrock is penetrated.. and why hasn't anyone coated soft armor to make it rifle rated...
