Anyone own one of those? $280 a pop and ugly as sin, but an interesting concept.

As an alternative to keeping a home SD firearm in a lockbox and more accessible I can see the potential value.
It looks easy enough to circumvent but might be something that would keep curious hands from potential harm... and keep honest folks honest.

Personally though I'm never big on anything biometric. Not only potential for failure but for a person that even casually uses/works with their hands... my fingerprints are always getting mangled and unreadable. I haven't met a device yet that will reliably read mine for more than a week or two.

Thoughts or practical experience with one(?)

My thoughts for whatever they're worth...

Biometric at that price range is not 100% reliable, as you indicate. Maybe it will one day but it isn't there yet.

It's also battery operated which means the battery can die on you and/or the electronics can simply fail.

Very easy to just pickup the gun, shove it in a purse or coat and work on busting that thing off later. To be fair, lock boxes don't offer a ton of theft protection either but at least they can be bolted down.

A mechanical simplex lock-box is still the best choice IMO.

Biometric lock boxes are just as fast to open, and arent attached to the gun.
I find more issues with this one than benefit.... the only benefit I find is preventing unauthorized use but it makes no sense to leave guns lying around loose with kids around even if locked out.

I don't even put lights on my guns so anything requiring batteries or wires is a no go for me.

There are so many ways to mechanically lock your guns up but still make them accessible that biometric anything is a total waste and potentially a nightmare when you actually need it to work.

I am super anti biometric anything so YMMV

I know this is an older thread, but it seems like nobody in this thread actually has a B.O.S. Lock.

Living in MA and having to deal with mandatory CAP laws that are in place here, I bought one of these and can attest to its quality. The entire philosophy and approach is innovative and it's incredibly effective. The speed blows anything I've seen out of the water. Regarding the biometric, it is completely solid and I have not had a single issue with it even with sweaty hands. Ultimately I liked it enough to purchase a second one.

Is it for everyone, prob not. But as a parent who wants to be both safe (and follow draconian laws) and have rapid access then this might be for you… it's been awesome for me.
