Either the ATF is trolling classified adds and trying to bait people into selling firearms illegally or there are some really uneducated (about buying process) people here. Ive had multiple people asking to ship to states that are restricted or wanting to do shady hand- offs.
My feeling is that the ATF Portland division is on this site and trying to bait people like they did to the airport executive they shot killed. Just thought id share this experience.

While I have no doubt that some ABC outfits monitor firearm forums , to include NWFA...
Trolling the classifieds seems like a lot of work.

In any event...
We have a report system here at NWFA.
If you suspect illegal activity or actions regarding a classified ad...simply report it.
No need to make a thread about it.

Either case is just as likely as the other, but it also depends on what you consider "shady hand-offs". IE., Asking a seller if they are willing to transfer only the receiver at the FFL and hand over the upper and other parts separately out in the parking lot... that's not the least bit "shady". They just want the receiver to transfer as an "other" instead of designated as a "pistol" or "rifle" receiver.

Stuff like that might seem "unusual" if you aren't too familiar with some pretty common practices, but that doesn't mean they are actually trying to be shady.

A few years ago I had a new member PM me about a gun I had up for sale and offered me MORE than my asking price if I would sell it to him FTF, no FFL.

My answer was an obvious no thanks.

This 'person' has never posted again on this forum.

If you suspect the ABCxyz+ agencies are spying here please share. I despise freedom snatchers.

I went to a large gun show down in my current area and found a used Glock 20 that had been gone over and re-certified by the Glock factory. Walking through the crowded aisles I think i was asked 5 times if i wanted to sell it. Doubted if they even cared what it was. Guessing it was cash and they'd be out the door. Needless to say they all got a no from me.
Down here you can direct sell a firearm. But I wouldn't even consider that unless they have a concealed carry license with their picture on it and I can take their picture.

Only shady deal here was a guy selling an original Belgium FAL for $2k said he wants me to send electronic payment before meeting at ffl. His English was very formal so likely the Nigerian prince wanting to make life easier.

Whats wrong with the thread about it? I wanted to hear if others are having similar experiences. I have seen fare more useless threads. Besides, I don't think it would be fare to report the users with the information i currently have.
And thanks for your effort to keep the site civil, not an easy task.

I didn't say that there was anything wrong with a thread about it....
I did say that there was no need to make a thread about it.

Algorithms... beware the autotroll.

I'm all for a thread assisting fellow members out, we don't want someone who is not familiar with local laws getting baited into illegal activity. I have seen ads and have had people respond to mine that seem a little "off" before and wondered about intentions.
