Why is there not a automatic classified delete for inactive adds ? I mean sure you can have an add that is from 2022 and as long as you bump the add would stay active . I noticed a lot of adds several years old and zero bumps the person was last seen on the day of the posting yet it stays lurking forever !

3 words: Search engine span.

You delete content, you remove ways of being discovered, which decreases engagement, which decreases ad impressions, which decreases revenue.

What I would like to see is a more active lock. Don't mind if they stick around but some of the ads get a bump, usually from someone new, and it's back in the feed getting responses for while and cluttering up the active ads.
IF it hasn't been bumped or had activity after say 90 days, would be nice to have at least a soft lock on it to not permit new replies.

My memory isn't as synopy as it once was... but I recall an advert-zombie hunt in the past. It was probably a lot of work for the @Moderators and/or @Joe Link , but I believe Members were encouraged to report those lifeless advertisements bumping around the Classified Section.

It seems like the Staff made attempts to contact the advert-creator before sending them to after-lock.

I recall at least one that was brought back to the Ads of the Living... the fella still had the item. I can't recall if the good was ever sold.

We do indeed have a Lock / Close Ad button.

However....
Many folks fail to use it.
And...
Many people join NWFA only to use the classifieds to sell their item...make an ad...
And never return.

Not hip to computers or computer programming...( shocker I know...:D )
But...
Some sort of reminder sent to a classified ad poster of ...
It's been a month...do you still want this ad open....?
And a automatic lock / closure of the ad if no reply within 2 months....
Might be nice.

I notices a bunch that just added to the header SOLD and there is languishes forever for all of us the see !

This is a link to Handgun Classified where the word "SOLD" appears in the advertisement thread. It would be tedious, but with administrative privileges someone could weed through the list and lock the ones that the word "SOLD" appears in the Original Post. And maybe send a "SLAP" via email to the forgetful person. :confused:___:D I kid I kid.

Rifles "SOLD" search

Shotguns "SOLD search

Parts & Accessories "SOLD" search

Optics "SOLD" search

etc...

I for one actually kinda like that an ad stays in the classifieds until the poster closes it.

Lately I have been searching for some odd/unique guns, that dont come up often. Several times doing a keyword search, I have found where someone posted a gun a year or more ago, and it still shows active. I reach out to them via PM, ask if still available or sold, and surprisingly have scored some pretty good deals where the item never sold, and so I am able to make a reasonable offer and get the gun at a pretty good deal!

"Reasonable offer" to you, lowball offer to me. I know what I have. $1,000 firm for this M&P Shield EZ 9MM. No trades.
