The gist is that the ATF plans to digitize the forms needed for notifying them for transporting NFA items across state borders, reducing typical times from 20 minutes for snail mail forms plus the usual mailing and waiting, to 10 minutes with a much shorter waiting period for approvals. The public has until Jan 27th to submit feedback

Abolishing the ATF would be much better streamlining.
Completely repealing the NFA and GCA and Hughes Amendment would go farther because as long as those laws stay in place, a Federal Agency will always be "needed" to enforce these laws.

But, that has as much chance as getting Congress to amend the Constitution to impose permanent Congress term limits

You can already fill it out with an online generator. Takes 5 minutes.

Not everyone has the same online generator thingy or know of it

You're an adult, you can decide to do whatever you wish...
@wired thank you for reminding me to get my calendar marked to send my annual forms in.

To hinder the right to travel lawfully to other States with a gun (without notifying the government) just because it's a "dangerous and unusual" weapon when the same class is in use by police and military.... Yea that's an infringement :p
All firearms laws are infringements. All of them…

OK, it's actually kinda annoying how these conversations always devolve into "All gun laws are infringements."

Do I agree with that sentiment? Yes I do. Do I think arguing about that sentiment in the context of discussing a new regulatory change is useful? No I do not.

I have a job, I have a family, I have responsibilities that make federal entanglements prohibitively risky for me. So unless you are willing to join a convoy traveling across state lines, openly thumbing your nose at the law while daring the feds to arrest you, stating facts like "this law is an infringement" does not really help the rest of us very much. Your covert flaunting of the law is all well and good for you, you are an adult who is free to take whatever risks you want, but how does this regulatory change impact those of us not in a position to take such risks? What about those of us who have obligations that mandate we follow these infringing laws? Is this change a benefit to people like that?

That would be a useful discussion to have. Maybe we can pencil that in for page three or four, after we get the "repeal them all" chest beating out of the way. . .

(I edited your comment because you had "hose" for "those"-, and "fallow" for "follow")
It seems the ATF was not previously aware of that online generator thing that already reduced the time to fill out that annual interstate transport form, and doesn't require mailing  but in any case, the fact is that there are many people who did not know about using online forms for such things, and it might impact those who exclusively use hard copies.

But officially making it easier to complete the process just so you can cross State lines with your NFA items? That's better than the other way around (making it harder to get approved for interstate travel with NFA items).

The last time I tried EForms did not have the 5320 listed as a form that could be filled out by an individual. It was locked away behind the dealer login. I am not sure if they have fixed that, as I have not attempted an interstate migration since. If they have it available on the individual EForms that is simple enough to fill out as it is only one page, but any simplification would be appreciated. What are they taking off the new form that was needed on the old one?

And where is Sobo? I need my intelligent spell checker to proofread my posts again. This AI garbage is really disappointing me recently.

That would explain why someone like Wired would say "it's already too easy, X site has the generator for online forms" because he is a dealer/SOT FFL  as to what's changing? I ain't sure. It's in the link I posted. It seems that they're going to make it an online process for non-FFLs to do.

Machine language learning modules actually but yeah.

I just checked, it looks like the interstate travel form is available to me now. The ATF still does not have auto-fill for any of my registered guns, which is super annoying (nor do they have the tax stamps archived for reference, which means finding that data from my personal records). Many of the other fields do look like they autopopulate, like all my personal info. But still, whatever they can do to streamline that process would be great.

I'll get around to reading the article eventually, it is open in my tabs now.
