One school of thought is to always have firearms in the NATO calibers.

Supposedly NATO will be switching to the 6.8SPCII cartridge. Might as well get ahead of the curve and be prepared for the conversion.
 
Main difference is that SOCOM has a shoulder and headspaces on that shoulder like a rifle cartridge.
Beo is straight-walled and headspaces on the case mouth like a pistol cartridge.
