As a lifelong (former) Alaskan, there are certainly more guns up there than anyone in California would be comfortable contemplating. However, there are a lot of places that are so small there is no "budget" to speak of. I have no doubt the local PD have plenty of their own firearms but there may be restrictions on what are allowed as Duty weapons financed through the Dept. They may be Community Resource officers and not PD as such and rely on State Troopers for heavy lifting. A lot of strange places up there.

From the article:

Kwethluk's Public Safety Administrative Chief Nicolai Joseph said the village's 10 police officers don't carry weapons.

Officers told the station they don't carry firearms due to a lack of funding.

More like a lack of brains by the city fathers. Then again.....what was stopping the individual officer(s) from carrying their own firearms?

Aloha, Mark

Yah, from the article.

However more than likely still some type of trible rules or some-such, coupled with standard piss poor journalism common to today. IMO.

Used to watch Alaska State Troopers a while back, and from I recall none of the trible police were armed.

Do not recall if they were even sworn LEO, vs just tribe.
