According to The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, City Marshal Brian Pope confirmed to them that six people were injured and that the shooter is dead.

Police haven't released any other official information.

We'll bring you more on this breaking news as soon as it comes in, here on WWLTV.com and during our 10 p.m. newscast.

Prayers for Lafayette at Grand Theater. Talking to state police colonel about shooting in Lafayette.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) July 24, 2015

Lafayette Police said they entered the theater to engage the shooter and he killed himself.

The gunman was using a handgun, police said. Police said they don't know if the gunman knew any of the victims or if it was a random act. They are not releasing his name because they do not want to compromise the investigation.

The local ambulance company said nine people were taken to the hospital. Three of those injured were in critical condition, officials said.........

Yup, Its a self-perpetuating problem. The more it gets talked about, the more it gets put in the front of the crazies minds, the more they think about it.

"Free speech" by the liberal media has done more to encourage these shootings than all other factors put together. Where do you think these people get the idea?

Just my opinion... :s0146:

A lot of time will be spent by the media covering this, while they ignore other statistics such as this one:

Shooting victims to date for 2015 in Chicago: 1,493!!

Consider these stats - total number of people killed in "mass shootings" between 1998 and 2015 is 560 (source: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/mass-shootings-mother-jones-full-data)

Total people killed by guns in CHICAGO ALONE in 2014: 343 (source: http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2014-chicago-murders/explore-data)

So just Chicago alone, in one year, racked up MORE THAN 1/2 the TOTAL NUMBER OF MASS SHOOTING DEATHS OVER A 17 YEAR PERIOD!!!!

Where is the yelling and screaming for the Chicago victims? Where are the nightly stories on the news where a dour-faced Obama laments gun violence in his home town? Where are the task forces, and even more restrictive gun laws in a state where, clearly, the gun laws are failing miserably!?

The truth? Mass shootings, as horrible and tragic as they are, are NOT the big problem. Looking at places like Chicago, LA, New York and others, you see that you are in far more danger being inside these gun-free bastions of extreme anti-gun legislation than you are in any area where guns are more openly and freely allowed and carried.

What a load of crap these people spout.

I take offense they say this guy was a conservative nut job.

I'm a conservative nut job, but I would never do anything close to this. I would never cuss someone out because it's just not what civilized people do.
It's not what a human being should do. This guy was a mental defective animal. Period.
And even calling him an animal is an insult to animals.

Doesn't matter if he is right wing or left out he was a mental defective that was a time bomb.

Would love to know his background and parents.
Just his profile alone speaks to the opposite of conservative.
Drifter with an occupation of "hustler"

I've been to Lafayette also, I've driven past that movie theater. This isn't going to look good for guns, it's just not. There are just too many happening in too short a period of time.

There are people on the left that are against guns and always will be, and there are people on the right, who are for guns and always will be, but aren't like a third of people in the middle? This isn't going to help sway them to vote our way.

That's the problem the ANTIs use these tragedies as a tool to further their anti-American agenda.
And as they sneak these laws past the citizens we seldom fight against it because it's someone else's state, I don't live there so It doesn't bother me. That's what the Jews thought at first.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

They seldom pass these laws through votes and if they do it's through some disguise that there are loopholes creating this utopia for criminals to atain weapons, but it only hurts the law abiding, thus they know they are only limiting and disrupting the law abiding from owning, using, and protecting themselves. It will continue until they chip away at our freedoms.
Then what's next?

We have to start fighting back through means of peace and education. Get that other third of swing votes on our side.

Just like the blacks did in the 50s and 60s to end segregation.
They used their power in numbers and education of the swing to help make change in this country. Change the govt and the wealthy didn't want.

Until we really start pushing back the right way, and in the faces of the people trying to take our rights and getting the swing on our side of the ring we can't win.

Taking away our rights and limiting our rights while making this country more dangerous is something none of us can stand for.
I fear for the country my kids will inherit.

My wife snd I went to see "Trainwreck" last night, the same movie that was playing at the LA theater shooting.

We did what we always do, which was to get there 10 minutes early and get seats in the corner of the back row.

This puts me above and behind any potential shooter who walks in with the intention of committing mass murder, which (hopefully) will give my wife enough time to hit the floor while I draw my Glock 26 and use the seat back in front of me as a rest in order to engage the shooter with 13 rounds of +P hollowpoints.

Its a plan, anyway. Better than just sitting there and waiting to be murdered.

There are those of us who don't sit with our back to an entrance for a reason....

The layout of most newer theaters is such that there are entrances at both sides that open up at the bottom, closest to the screen.

A whack job that goes in there is probably going to start shooting the first people he sees, who will be in the first few rows and facing the screen instead of him.

Sitting up at the top corner gives you freedom of movement because you are on the end of an aisle instead of being "boxed in" in the middle, and you are positioned above and to the blind side of a shooter who enters on your side, and above and on the opposite corner of a shooter who enters the other side.

Too bad we live in a world where it is necessary to think of such things, but it is what it is.
