I love everything about it, except the price. Big Horn has them showing between $3—4K; neat, but I can't come to peace with that price. And I have to many lever actions as it is. And, oh yah, a .500 out of a carbine has to be a freight train.

You get what you pay for, I suppose. big name levers like Marlin, Winchester and Henry and been pushing the $2k mark for a while and the new entry from Smith is well above a grand. I don't see this price as too far out of line if they take the time to do it right instead of mass producing.

Same idea applies to 1911s where you can get a pretty good 1911 for $1500-$2000 but if you really want the custom stuff you gotta step up to $3k+ for the most part

It has been awhile since I've acquired a new lever-gun and wasn't aware mainstream makers were in the $2K zone now. That actually make the Big Horn not far off the mark, considering.

Same ol story, sell a bunch of your levers and have just one. Not a bad way to justify the price.

I had a 500 S&W revolver years ago. The power, even out of a 4" barreled handgun is incredible.
Those Big Horn guns are certainly worth their money, but I'd opt for a 45-70 over a 500.

I don't shoot the .500 wheelgun a lot, but when I do, it is a lot of fun. The raw power is just something else. Dusting pins never gets old.

Variety is the spice of life.

Variety, oh dear, how spicy.jpg

Pushing. Some models are at $2k+ MSRP but most fall within the mid 1000s. Lever guns, just like revolvers have been well on their way to luxury arms for a while

You can get a killer nice uberti for $1275 or so in pistol calibers. No way in hell I would pay $2000 for a standard lever gun. 45-70 ruger marlin is about same price as uberti in stainless ($1200 or less).

Even these uber Uberties are less than $1500. bubbleguming gorgeous wood, engraving, case hardening.

I'd settle for my old Marlin 36 back....
Or something similar in .30-30.

Miss the days when buying , selling and trading for firearms was easy....along with seeing older lever action rifles at shows.

In any event....sounds like a neat rifle in the OP...and I can see the attraction and use for it.
However....waaaaaaay too rich for my blood.

As for the Uberti...those are nice too....:D

.50 caliber .... 300 odd grain bullet back by 95 grains of black powder....originally.
I have no idea what a smokeless loading would be.

Interesting. I was wondering if it was black powder only and it doesn't say on Uberti's website. This link say both Bp and smokeless though so maybe there is some .50-95 smokeless ammo. No clue. I like the 28" barrel and antique look of the rifle.

Might be some loads or load data ...for black powder pressure but smokeless loadings....
Kinda like the smokeless "Trapdoor Safe " .45-70 loadings.....which ain't nothing to sneeze at.
