What you want to do with the rifle/scope combo is what drives the scope you should purchase.
All of my experience is as a hunter and I don't' take long shots. Scopes I use aren't the same as what someone who shoots at 1000yds wants.

And budget might apply.

I completely agree. It really not a hunting rifle but more so a 300-600 yard target rifle. Just taking it to lob some lead down semi lengthy distances. My hunting rifles are all Leoupold only because that's what I've always hunted with. For target/ steel I figured I would see what others use for this type and distance.

If the rifle is being used for single targets at known distance, a complicated reticle isn't necessarily a benefit. Dialing for distance, and continue to shoot.

If the rifle is being used for multiple targets at known distance or unknown distances, a more complicated reticle may be beneficial. Range and use the reticle sub-tensions for elevation and windage adjustment.

If you desire to shoot for the smallest group size, a target scope with minute(small) adjustment increments might be something to consider.

What's your budget?

300-600 can easily be handled with a 4x16 or 3x18 (the 3x18 is very versatile) but you'll probably start taking 308 out further so a 5x25 or bigger might be a better choice.
I use a Brownells 5x25 on my 22 arc 100-1000 yard rifle.
I have even more magnification on my ELR rifle.
